I was looking at my Palys today and noticed cream spots on them!

Over the past week I noticed they weren't extending out as far but I just don't know much of what to expect with my Palys....

This is what they looked like about a month ago

I don't know if they are sick, or if this is normal, or what...

The spots seem normal on palys and I dont see anything in the wrong direction. There might be other issues why they are not opening up.

We knew that they were stretching for light, shortly after that picture was taken we actually moved the light closer to the water. Our questions now is if it's normal for Palys to be this short, and if these white spots are normal or if they are sick.

I'm not sure what you mean by short, because the less elongated they are the happier they are, meaning that they don't have to stretch for light as much. As for those dots, it looks normal to me. My Nuclear Greens have tons of them and it looks like sand. Just get them up even higher and they should be rocking!

I was hoping it was just sand or something like that... But it looked like it was on the inside of the Palys, and quite a bit at the base.

This is what they look like today.

Will find a new place on the rocks to place them a little higher up.

It looks like sand or substrate being incorporated into their base, and if so this is normal for palys. Mine have small whole rocks stuck in their bases as they lie directly on the substrate.

Sorry for the bad lighting and bad pic, but you can see white dots speckling the base and stem of the palys in the pic, which are pieces of substrate. Is this similar to what you are seeing?

White spots that are bigger may be zoa pox. Here a pick i.took of mine a while ago. You can see large white spots

So I have a little update.

The Palys seemed to be doing better, until today when I did a count and we went from having 14 Palys to 13...

I'm wondering if there is something I can do to try to help them grow again...

If you're losing polyps, it's likely that you have Zoapox, as indicated above. Try googling zoapox to see if it looks similar (hard to tell from the pics). If it is in fact zoapox, a Furan2 dip should keep you from losing any more poylps.

Well figured I would update this..
We got down to 2 Palys... Had almost given up and thought about just throwing away the rock they were on... So glad we didn't!!! We are now back up to 7 Palys again and they are growing more and more all the time!

We used a Lugols dip and then just let them go from there.
