I did it again. I was researching though this time and thought I figured it out. But the giant hermit crab I got is a spotted giant hermit crab. I can't find much on care but what I did find was that they are not reef safe because they are carnivores. I knew it would go after clams but I gave up on them. I thought it was omnivorous and would eat nori. I was wrong. Frankly it wouldn't bother me if it went through snails but I wouldn't want it to eat my dwarf hermits. I counted 12 today. I read that they will eat any mollusk so I was thinking if I get frozen, not seasoned clams at the super market and fed those to him that maybe he would leave the others alone, being well fed and all. What do you all think? I can put him in the sump if this doesn't work.

He is pretty awesome.

Let him keep the sump clean and feed him once or twice a week a small chunk of fish flesh. Hopefully he wont climb around and get into the pump intake or try and walk back to the ocean.

I didn't take the advice and decided to try him out in the main tank and just feed him enough that he won't bother anything. Big mistake. I fed him a muscle every two days and he still ate two arms of a fat sand sifting star fish I have had for two years. I am hoping the legs grow back and he recovers. The crab is now in the sump.
