Hello everyone, I would love to get some opinions on this mandarin at my LFS...I'm hoping it's a female so I can (with a lot of luck) pair it with the male in my tank. Her(?) dorsal fin doesn't seem to have a spike but I'd love to get some more experienced opinions.

Female

X2 I agree. Dorsal fin dead giveaway. Would have a tall dorsal fin, often with a tall point if male.

Whilst I agree that it certainly looks female, they can often deceive. Sometimes you see the dorsal have been damaged during shipping and occasionally males don't have particularly impressive dorsal. So if you can socially acclimate them together for a while it will make things easier.

True. The rest is an overall feeling from the photo, for me.

Wow! Thanks for your input everyone! I'll be picking her up on Tuesday and I'll keep in her an acclimation pen in the tank and gauge how my other mandarin responds to her hanging around!
