Had an interesting discussion with an old tank pro the other day musing about the spring tank issues nearly everyone ends up having. Every spring the tanks always seem to have that unexplainable issue, with corals receding or dying off, and things are just generally off.

We have come across a few possible ideas as to what could be happening, so I was wondering how many people have active active home filtration compared to no active filtration, and how many people see the mysterious spring tank syndrome.

HA! Me too! I was just talking to a friend today about an unknown problem he's having with his system.

Well here is the hypothesis we discussed. Spring his the peak season for pollen and mold spores. The volume of the ocean and the currents sweep alot of it away, but there are some reactions observed in near shore reefs and intercoastal waterways. Looking to see if there is any difference between people using hepa filtration or ionic/UV whole house filters and people not using them. We have had a real wet spring in the midwest, floods in the area, and over the last 4 days heavy rains, and some tanks are starting to get mystery issues. Could terrestrial pollen and mold spores be causing the spring tank syndrom?

Bumping this old thread:). This is a very interesting subject and would love to speak about this. I'm currently going through a mystery issue in my tank. Some sps and lps are slowly receding and getting burnt tips but others are showing amazing PE. Even the sps that is receding is showing great PE. I've tested and tested and everything is good. Last few weeks i have had my windows open from time to time and the pollen is very high in the area. I wonder if that is causing thiso_Oo_O
