Springfield, MO

Jonathon, Nice to meet you. I'm Chris, or Greybeard, either will work.

If you're in the woods around Lebanon, you're something like 30 miles east of me, out in the woods near Buffalo. Come on out, maybe we can get something going through sheer force of will :D
Nice to meet you Chris, That would be great I’m in 100%! I’m sure we can make it happen I know of a few others in Springfield that are also new to mo and they are looking for a club to join. I’d be glad to come and start getting to work on this. I will pm you my cell number and we can start to get this lined up together sorry for the late response brother I missed the notification.

Did you all decide to create a club in Springfield? I'm in Joplin but I will come to monthly meetings. Life factors forced me out of the hobby when the SEAS was in its prime.

No movement. I'm up for whatever... be happy to host a meetup, anything I can do to get a marine aquarium club back up and running in this area.

Maybe we could discuss doing group buys for say things like salt, frozen foods, cleanup crews etc.... Not sure how to organize something like that. I'm still probably 8 weeks from having my big tank ready.

I'll be in Joplin this Saturday. 2A pride ride at Hideout.

I'd be happy to host something. Meet and greet, planning session, whatever. Set up a date, let's get it moving, everybody can ogle my neglected, BTA filled aquarium :D

So anymore ideas on getting a club together in Springfield, or does anyone want to get together tomorrow and chat about tanks. Or, come see my tank, see if you have any feedback on my setup

Hey so I am in Springfield but it doesn't look like this group is very active or am I missing something. I am new to saltwater and wanted to see if anyone was local that I could pick their brains or just meet up and get ideas.

You're right. Not very active... Springfield's reef club shut down years ago. Several of the old members are still around, but all attempts to resurrect the group seem doomed to failure.

All the same, I'd be happy to hang out for a while, talk reefing. I'm in Buffalo, about a 40 minute drive north, but I get to Springfield regularly. Send me a PM, we can figure something out.

Been a long long while but I recognize alot of the names up there. I was SnipeEasyC was a young guy back than but theseas was something back in the day. It really was. I'm in howel County but would also be interested in another club. Our local salt store closed a few years back. The closest we have to stores is springfield or mountain home.

Im sorry for slacking on this thread fellas! John I’m in the same boat as you in terms of Springfield being the closest area to pick up some reef related gear/ live stock. Now that I’ve been in mo for years I just reached a point where I accepted that I’ll have to travel as much as i can. I attended reefapalooza tx last year and I made it down to Florida for the event that just happened a few months back in Orlando. I go to just about every reefingusa swap in St. Louis but they only come around a couple of times a year so in between all of that I find myself ordering coral online mostly. between the live sales/ coral auctions I’ve landed some pretty sick deals. prior to living in mo I never purchased live stock online but over the years I’ve tried many vendors and now I have a few that I truly trust to sell me healthy live stock.

A couple of months back I checked out a new shop that opened in Springfield called “Zark aquarium and design” and it really seemed like it was off to a great start. I talked reefing with the owner for 30 mins or so, really enjoyed that! It had been so long since I stopped into an aquarium shop and chopped it up with a local reef keeper/ shop owner like that. Im really hoping he does well!

I recently heard of another shop that just opened somewhere relatively close by as well… I can’t for the life of me think of what that one’s called lol ……. My bad fellas I’m no help! Haven’t had the chance to check it out yet so I really can’t say much about it.
I really have to make my way up to Springfield more often and show these guys some love and appreciation for their service to our community. It’s exciting that we’ve got some ppl shaking things up around here!

Btw if anyone in the area is battling aiptasia lmk because I got into breeding berghia and the population has gone crazy! It’s definitely time to distribute some of these! Im on the outskirts of Lebanon but I’d be willing to arrange a meet up if you’re interested.

Pretty awesome. There is aquarium wholesale up by Kansas city. They do facebook live auctions. Shipping isn't to bad. Everything is wyswyg. Trying to bid through live can be aggravating though ha ha.

I'm actually heading to springfield now. Going to aquarium shoppe and the one you mentioned.

Was pretty impressed with ozark aquarium and designs. I kinda feel bad he was such a nice guy. Wanted a bubble nem. He had 2 rainbows stuck to a rock. So he was like ill take $100 for the whole rock. Pretty awesome donut rock. Just to save him the headache of picking off a rock. Got home. 3 bubble anemones on the rock.

he had some really cool stock for sure. He had ora yellow tangs. Pretty impressive soft and leathers. Really impressive clams as well.

Those were my rainbow nems :D

Don't feel bad for Mike, and yeah, he's a nice guy, and it's the best store around. I had those rainbow nems take over my tank. Covered every rock. Traded the entire load, rock and all to him for 2 boxes of new rock and basically rebooted the tank. There were probably 60 or so nems in total, I'm quite sure he made out like a bandit on them. Fine by me, I got what I wanted for them. Glad this group found a new home!

Good news is they're happy, healthy nems, and if they like your tank conditions as much as they did mine, you'll have nems coming out of your ears :D. I had them under Kessel AP700's, and I never bothered to feed them directly. The donut rock is 'Real Reef' rock, one of the man made purple coated types, and it was in my tank for, what, 5 years, maybe? Well aged :D

Here's a shot from before I rebooted the tank... Yeah, there's some healthy nems in there :D

Enjoy !

They look massive. I hope they do take off I'd love to have a nem only tank. I actually have a bit of that same rock in my system. It has been up and running since I think early in the year 2020. It's been ip and going for a minute. I have had 2 corals mostly this whole time. They are massive massive. Like basket ball size and that's the frags. A purple gorgonia and a green leather. They are finding a new home. These nems are venturing about already.

That's the gorgonia frag to the left. It's so huge haha I had to leave it the tank but j had to cut this thing back to place that rock. The leather I'm gonna frag it before I go back. Really cool to find the original owners.

I don't have a massive system it's a redsea reefer 250. I had the reefer90 leds over it. But I kept having internet issues and opted to swap to something that didn't require wifi to turn them on. Now my tank has 2 maxspec rs200 light.

Kinda figured duals might be over kill. But it really hasn't been.
