What is a good way to acclimate SPS in the tank? Do I start at the sand bed and raise after a few days? Do I start with low lighting and gradually proceed to more intense? Whats your experience?

What type of lights are you using?

Probably just put it in a mid to low area with appropriate flow, and raise it a bit every week. Keep in mind if you got it from someone that has similar set up and lights, you may not need to do this as extensively, well in theory.

How do i go about acclimating sps to my tank when i run Red Sea Coral Pro Salt with Alk around 11-12 DKH, when the frags come from tanks running around 7-8 DKH? Ive had success with some various Montis, but acro not so good.

Most successful sps keepers keep their tanks near nsw levels. My system runs around 7.3dkh and 415 calcium currently. Anything above 8.5 dkh starts to spell disaster for my system.

Proper water pramameters for corals should have been established in the DT before purchasing and are stable before adding.

It's always a good idea to dip all coral frags in Coral RX or Revive....
and if possible quarantine them in a separate tank for observation for pests. Not everyone can do this and it's okay.
If your going strait into the DT from the LFS or online retailer after dipping..........below

When ready to add to the DT, slow drip acclimate them for a couple hours. Why? DT water chemistry may be different than the LFS or bag of water.

Place into the DT when lights are out, as not to light shock them and place as low into the tank as possible. Flow depending on type of coral, SPS, LPS....Leave them there for a week and observe.

Having a understanding of your light intensity is key going forward. Most SPS corals will do good at 200-250 par. If you dont ( and most don't, including me) have a par meter, read up on using a lux meter and doing the conversion recommended.

After a week, raise them up to mid level on your rockwork and wait another week for observation. Continue doing this till they are where you want them.

Any signs of bleaching are indications of to much light intensity and should be moved down lower or lower your light intensity.

Hope this helps.
