Post your success with having SPS corals and what you think will make a thriving tank. Some of my recommendations: document you test results, stick to your water change schedule and don't be slack, mature tank etc. Post some of yours

Stability. Keeping the main 4 elements as stable as possible, calcium, alkalinity, magnesium and salinity.

I have a problem all mine do good for about a month then start to do ****** and start bleaching from the middle ....I don't get it ..but I don't have a auto top off and I add about 2 Gallo s ever 2 days cuz of evaporation. .all my levels are zero and my Kh I'd 9 to 10 and 480 calcium I'm running leds same ones my lfs uses and I'm running a carbon reactor ....any advice I really like the sps but I'm just starting to keep it

you should add the water everyday because that means the salt levels will be half as up and down compared to every 2 days. Also nitrates are important, too much light could be a problem (if your lfs has them it means they obviously put out enough light) I would definanetely top off everyday at least not every two days! hope this helps

Yea i was thinking hard about making a auto top off system ...I got leds so I'll try my best with the pics ...it's soo much gooder in person

Its a nice tank just watch with a few soft corals can irritate Sps. Your build looks fine just make sure your nitrates are as close to zero s possible. Siphon out your sump every now and then keep us posted

Yea i have a rock set up for each one for my acans then my zoas and my frog spawn and torch then my sps ...I watch my alk but never have tested phosphates I heard the api test dosent read what really counts

Are you using a dosing pump or manually dosing? I have found that with sps corals a dosing regiment with a dosing pump provide great results. Adding small amounts of calcium, alkalinty and magnesium daily keep parameters very stable. When manually dosing you are putting alot of elements in which causes swings in your parameters.

I was doing it manually but been looking into a doser .... but I use red sea coral pro and I do a 10 to 15 gallon water change every Thursday so I quite dosing cuz that's stuff is packed with everything ...and I run my salt higher because the read said the Lil higher u run it the higher ur calcium alk and mag is ...I run my salt at 1.025 witch is 35.0 ppt

I'm not very experienced with acros, but I discovered my problem was having too low nitrates and phosphates. Especially since you're running elevated alkalinity, you should have a small amount of nitrates and phosphates (~5ppm and 0.03)

My first acro got stn within the first week which I attributed to my 11.5 dkh alkalinity and undetectable nitrates/phosphates. After overfeeding and slowly dropping my alkalinity to ~8.5 dkh, the acro stopped deteriorating and has been recovering ever since.

Edit: I just realized this thread is from 2014....oops.
