How do you guys feel about LED for SPS tanks? There are mixed reviews from what I've seen on other boards so wanted to get the R2r community's opinion. Who has had great success with this? Pics would be awesome! Thanks!

Some sps look better under leds some look better under halides growth seems to be about the same. I run three radions over my display have only had them for about 2 months but my tank is sps heavy very large stock list. I have run leds over lps and zoa tanks with great success but this is my first crack at sps but so far I am impressed. Vivid aquariums have 11 radions on one side of their tank and a bunch of radium halides on the other they too have seen good results with leds. There will always be nay sayers. Same thing happened when t5s hit the market people didnt think they could grow sps but I have seen some amazing tanks with t5 lighting.

Here is a post I just did from my build thread on another forum. These are under diy leds from rapid. I think it is good growth but I was also getting my dosing all dialed in. Sorry the iphone pictures suck.

Here is my SPS that was in my 125g under Maxspect 170W LED fixtures I also supplemented with VHO's. This is 2 years worth of growth. Even with all my alk swings, other issues, still looked killer good before i upgraded to the 225g

I recently pulled 2400 watts of halides off of my tank and put some DIY LED fixtures over it. Been about 120 days and i love it so far. Tank is 60X48X27 so lotsa LEDS and plenty deep but dont regret it at all. ELectric bill has dropped $170 per month.

Bah, you just like showing off those angels Dave. ;)

I am keeping up with your switch to LEDs. Looking good so far.

Busted, I do love my angels. i managed to get these hand holding my camera today. I had to show them off and they are under LEDS...LOL I posted this one on the top ten reef fishes.

I should post a disclaimer with them to not try this at home. They do make the tank a lot more work and pose extra challenges to keeping the water quality. However, I dont worry about anything soft gowing anywhere they can reach it.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm currently in the process of setting up my tank and have already bought the Maxspect mazarra-P series lighting and wanted to see which direction I want to take the tank. I'm confident that Lps and zoas will thrive but I wanted to throw some sps in there too to create some diversity. Anyone here use the Maxspect mazarra P's? If so tell me your experiences with Sps and this lighting.

You will not be disappointed!
Have grown acros starting in '93' and have been dumbfounded by the color and growth I get from my acros since changing to AI Sol Blue LEDs!

Lets see some more pics! I really want to see how Sps are coloring with LED's. I was thinking about using T5 for my tank until I saw these pics just want to see some more peace of mind
