SPS and LPS all die in two weeks

I am just about ready to give up. My corals all die in about two weeks after I put them in the tank both lps and sps are effected Mushrooms and Flower anemones are good. I was wondering if green cyno blowing around the tank could cause the problem. I blow off the rocks and gravel everyday. Vacuum the gravel with each water change have been taking the wait it out approach(waiting for months though) since I hesitate to go with the chemical approach as last time I got dinos got rid of them by UV and raising phosphates, still add phosphate daily to get to .003ppm. Nitrate is 4. Any suggestions tank is a year and half (started with dry rock) old looked better at six months than is does now. It is 100gallon with 20gallons on the sump all other parameters are in normal ranges and steady. Last two months coralline grow slowly but is growing. Advice please!!!

Why cant u keep sps?

Well first and for most im not a scientist or marine biologist my theory base only on my experience and observation on my reef tank. I just want to help those that have problems keeping sps. In this discussion please keep it positive and dont make it to “i know better than u or led is better...

What are your parameters? Lighting? Nutrient export methods? How many fish and how much do you feed? What do you dose?

I'd say check your lighting if your coraline is just now growing slowly.
Some fish will bother lps and sps but leave the softies alone.

Chaeto in the fuge grows got some bubble algae but not much. Have three Kessil 360x over the four foot tank. Should have four per BRS. I am really wonder about blowing the green film algae into the water column. I assume it is what is taking all the Phosphate everyday. and other nutrients. Could that be the issue???

Your alk should be lower, around 7 with 0.003 po4. Maybe get rid of the chaeto until you can get your nutrients up. 3 kessil a360x should be plenty of light for lps but not enough for sps. You may want to look into the t5 hybrid.

Your phosphates are swinging if you're adding phosphat-e everyday, do not do this. That is lanthanum which binds to p04 and should be filtered out of your system with 5 micron sox. Do not use lanthanum below 0.2 po4 ppm, since not all will be bound to po4 and may harm livestock.
Use gfo instead. Please list your foods for phosphate determination. Reef roids is very high in phosphates for example.
I use lanthanum once every 2 months, on my overstocked tank
Can you provide reasons you use brightwell daily, like your phosphate levels and testing methods?

I had bad case if green cyano all over. I kept siphoning it out and cleaning the sand bed with every water change and eventually it all went away in the DT and only grows on the walls of the fuge in the sump. My nutrients at the time were really low on tests but the sand would cloud when stirred. I also added a diamond goby and some cerith snails to help move it around between water changes.

Can't exactly say what made it finally start to recede but I don't like to use chemicals.

Too much nutrient export. You probably don’t have to do anything aside from a 5-10% water change every week and feed your critters responsibly. In the vast majority of cases, a refugium, algae reactor, biopellets, nopox, vibrant, vinegar/vodka dosing, etc. are completely unnecessary and can cause problems instead of preventing them. KEEP IT SIMPLE. All I run is a protein skimmer and an awc system that replaces the equivalent of 5% water volume over the course of a week. I highly doubt it’s much better than doing a 5% water change on a saturday or whatever. Nitrates: 5ppm. Phosphates: .08ppm. Get rid of the chaeto, slightly adjust your phosphate level every day and I’ll bet it’ll stabilize and not require dosing anymore after a week or so. High nitrates is 20ppm +. High phosphates is .2ppm +. Never go below 2ppm nitrates and .04ppm phosphates unless you’re doing zeovit or something weird like that.

I may have mis understood, but I think he isnt dosing lanthum, I think he is dosing Neophos to keep from bottoming out

The moment I read “dinos”, “sps/lps is dying”, “chaeto” and “i’m dosing phosphates daily”, I can safely assume it isn’t a lighting issue. I’ve seen sps, including acros grow under the crummiest and dimmest led lights (albeit slowly).

I never said you can’t grow sps under kessils. I said 3-a360x over 100 is not enough light. What size tank is your a160we over?

I should of said the OP will need more light if they want their sps to thrive but I don’t think lighting is their current issue. That’s why I recommended Alk, po4, etc first.
