I'm cycling in a tank that will be SPS dominant with a starboard bottom. I would like to eventually put some lower light sps directly on the bottom of the tank. Does anyone know if they will grow directly onto starboard? Or does there need to be coraline coverage first?

It won't stop them front encrusting on it. It may not fully "stick" to the board, but definitely won't stop them from trying. Think of glass the same way. I have seen plenty of Acro/Mille/Monti's grow on glass.

Gotcha and thank you!

I have corals encrusting on the HDPE bottom in my tank. They stick to it just as well as to rock, if not better.
