So I had a tort shipped overnight and it arrived looking well. Wrong color, but healthy. Next day, still well. It had a small amount of algae on it (Dino’s) so I went to blow it off, then instantly the color started coming off. Looked just like I was power washing something. The green coating instantly blew off of it. Oddly enough, underneath the green was purple, which was the right color. Is this normal? Does SPS produce this type of coating when stressed? Maybe some kind of defense mechanism. The coating on the polyps still remain green.

You sure it didn't RTN and you blew it's tissue off? Hard to tell from the pic, but it does look kind of white.

Nope, other then sliming up, never heard of one having a "coating" that blew off to uncover the true color.

The top half looked just like the bottom did before I blew it off. Tips were green showing no signs of stress.

The brown looks most like dinos to me, but the spots I circled are definitely areas of tissue recession, unfortunately.
I'd give it a dip ASAP, I think witch hazel would be ideal, but its uncommon to have on hand.
That said, its looking like it's not going to make it too long and I think it will fully rtn soon, based on my experience.

The stuff that blew off is the corals flesh. Green spots left behind are the polyps.
Sorry, but if it isn't already dead, it probably will be soon.
