so my tanks colors are looking pretty good at the moment, a little pale ans washed out but there has been some improvement.
my issue is that quite a few of my pink/red corals have a green tinge or green encrustation, in fact a few other colors have the same thing happening
i was wondering what could have caused it. i know iron is an issue but i dont dose it and my levels for it are a bit low. so i was wondering if it could be a light issue, i run a nanobox reef quad

my parameters are stable, some cal swing but all in the normal range
alk 8.7/8.4
cal 420/440
mag 1230
potassium 430

cheers

IMO a light issue.
Can you show a FTS with the lights at the highest setting?
Or if possible do a PAR test.

the light is at 75% blues and 70% whites. its also only about 15/20cm above a 30cm deep tank so i doubt that the issue is the amount of light, i have to turn it down a while back due to bleaching

sorry about that last post. still trying to figure out how to post pics
so here is how the light is set above the tank

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss lighting as the issue. You're lighting maybe bright, but with all LED lighting, the spread is coming from a small diode and does not completely illuminate a coral unless it's directly under it. This happens with halide to an extent as well, but to a much lesser degree because of the physical size and spread of the halide bulb. This is why I'm not a fan of running any point source light without t5's in addition, for SPS keeping. Are the green areas shaded from direct light by it's own branches? Either way, it's not a big deal unless you start seeing base STN. I think green bases look cool on certain corals.

Yeah I actually think it's a light issue, just not an intensity issue. I have a t5 retrofit on its way which should help with spread. And after what you said about where the green actually was it makes some sense that it's a spot light effect. The issue is that it onky makes sense for some of the corals
I was thinking that the problem is with the spectrum of light being produced.

I've noticed that when I turned down my whites on my radion I get better color in general. I went from 55% to about 30% and saw some good results in the last month or so.

I've seen several LED lights that seem to encourage greens in corals...

I some what have this same issue in my tank, corals are growing good though, color could be a lot better. I know or feel my lights are to low when it comes to putting Par into the tank. I have pretty much bought the last SPS corals for my tank, as soon as the last 4 frags I have bought look to be coming around & acclamted to the tank. I am going to start raising the Par levels going into the tank and see if this improves growth & color, I believe it will.

I used to have a green hue on a lot of corals with my DIY leds. Once I switched to kessils the green hue went away and normal colorations were back in my corals. I think it was just a little bit of a spectrum change that helped bring colors back to normal. I was running a good mix of colors in my DIY. Just not the right amount of something or too much of something.

So what was the magic Kessil setting?

I am getting a lot of green with mine and I have to think it is a combination of spectrum and intensity. I think I've read elsewhere that the green is from increase in zooanthallae which the corals are using deal with not enough light intensity??

Here is a couple pic of my settings on kessils. They seem dimmer but corals are growing great. I used to have 96 leds on the 48"x 26x20 tall tank. Now just 3 kessils.

I have run halides, vho's,t5's and led's. Yes I am old. So I have purchased many mono colored corals and some of them take on green around a growing base and I have never once thought this was a bad thing. Don't muli colored corals cost more than single?
I have been from Iwasaki 6500's to Radiums. With and without actinic. Its always the same and I like it. Iodine is known to make yellows turn green. Maybe it's possible to add green to other colors as well?

I say enjoy the beauty your coral now has. :)

i'm definatley enjoying the corals at the moment as the color is really coming through.
though i did turn my whites down a bit to see if that would do anything to reduce the green in my corals
