I have 2 sps coral that I was given. It was just a bunch of loose coral. I glued them down to the rock but I didn't realize that one of thr pieces was something else. They've been growing ok, but it looks like they are starting to actually touch and embed around each other. Now I'm noticing one of them looks like it's polyps have retracted and aren't coming out. I assumed it's just because my tank isn't stable enough. But then I had the thought of maybe one is stinging the other. If that were thr case, would the whole branch die or would it just be individual polyps?

I don't have a great picture and I honestly don't even know what they are. But the orange one in the back looks like dying. This is an old pic

different acros shouldn’t physically touch each other. They will sting one another. If they are touching move one of them asap.

To answer your question, typically the affected area will be localized to where contact was made.

Sometimes they change directions to avoid touching, sometimes one grows over the other one and sometimes one stings and kills the neighbor or parts of the neighbor.

So, it's probably just water quality then. The backside looks exactly like the front side
