Whether or not you dose trace elements depends largely on system requirements, frequency of water changes, and salt used for them. Alk, ca, and mag do not provide trace.

If anyone hasn't seen this , I suggest you do - master presentation by none other than Jason Fox about his collection trips and Ofcourse his system.
Simplest you can think of mostly with leds but one place he didn't go cheap - Flow . Using panta rhei pumps which are leagues ahead of anything we use
He doesn't even have a controller !!!

It is by sure not mandatory to add trace elements for every tank. On the other hand this besides Ca Alk and Mg dosing keeps your water more like natural seawater

There are several systems where you add traces directly to the stock solutions.

Also some systems where you, for a lot of money, buy readily mixed stock solution w/wo trace elements. Mixing up from dry balling salts and adding traces there are my preferred systems. Affordable and including traces

If you use this, you can do less or smaller waterchanges .... expecting that you don't need waterchanges to keep your nutrient levels low

Not sure if I'd say chemistry because I really only test for Dkh to watch trending with my Ca Rxtr. Stability and slow trends up or down. Of course the same dkh for months on end is best. After that, just like everyone else said, Flow, a lot of it. So much that LPS struggle and Softies wont survive. Then lighting, A lot of that too.

I would like to add that selection of the SPS (species, growth type, individual requirements) will determine the chemistry, flow, and lighting required. Research prior to purchase is a valuable thing.

Not sure which is most important, but I think lighting is probably the least important of the 3 (though still important).

I believe to have a successful and colorful SPS tank everything has to be on point and remain consistent. My water chemistry could be perfect but if I change my t5 bulbs out and don't raise my fixture, a few of my corals always bleach out. If your water, lighting, and flow are all good you should be successful. The only thing I can think of that would get in the way of that would be excessive pests, such as AEFW.

You have to have all three correct. Lighting, flow, and water chemistry. If one gets out of whack it can throw the other two off.
