I have had some SPS since very early with my tank, like 1-2 months after initial cycle. I lost some SPS but never had any noticeable growth or PE. My tank just hit the 2 year mark and my SPS have finally started to have good growth and PE. Hopefully your tank doesn't make you wait 2 years to start growing SPS but you probably will have to wait for them to thrive.

The longer stalk on the right - what's that hole looking thing on the right. Had it had any tissue loss? Is there a worm or something else that had made a home in it that's possibly irritating it? When a vermetid snail made a home in one of my acros it looked similar to that spot on the right. No PE and a hole in the stalk.
Some SPS are more hardy than others Steve. Montipora and Birdsnest are more apt to make it in a new tank, I think. The Cali tort might be a little more challenging. Don't be discouraged though. It's all part of the process Bud.
SPS do not like change. My only advice is, focus on consistent parameters. Those Reef Breeders ought to keep SPS.

kinda looks like something ate into the right side of the long stalk in two places.Can anybody tell me why my green slimmer looks like this?Everything else in my tank looks good.

It's ok not to keep SPS they are a very challenging coral to keep. Acro's as a family of corals are very very picky about water chemistry and will die at the change of one to two points in alk sometimes. I started keeping Acro's in the early 90's and believe me they are quite tough coral to get going in a system. Once you have things level and there are no hiccup's in your water chemistry they can do great.

Thats the thing the only thing that has changed is my nitrates. Im not new to saltwater just sps..

Im sorry yall.. just don't understand. And so much information thats conflicting. Until I get the nitrates up a little doesnt seem that im going anywhere with this tank.

Yes this morning. I have been told several times that im jumping the gun. So its bring the nitrates up and wait and see.. thanks for your input..

Yeah man, you just have to find the sweet spot. Don't worry too much with chasing numbers, just keep them in check. Stay positive and patient and they will take off. I'd worry more about your phosphates than your nitrates!

this frag probably got injured... stnd at that spot ... some algae grew on the side ... then the coral healed and started growing but the algae wouldn't let it encrust. Another cause of that particular growth pattern is very often caused by the acropora eating flat worms , they usually stress the acro it would die off on one spot , and after they lay eggs on the dead side of the coral , it grows back like that . So to be safe i would dip it in bayer and inspect for the eggs.
