i used to use KNO3 as NO3 supplement. what do you use for NO3. NO3 always bottom out for me.

I have siporax in sump, it's quite good at keeping N03 low, sometimes too low. I use it for bacteria homing capacity.

When all your params seem spot on or close and the corals start to STN, or recede in any way, I can't remember who had said that they used UV treatment to kill anything that might be affecting their corals and it worked for them. Their numbers were very good also. It was some form of bacteria that the corals couldn't stand and UV put a stop to it.

My bad - I was of the impression that you use Red Sea:s black bucket.

i want to add a few more sunburst anthias, the one i got is kinda lonely.

Total of topic but I have a lot of experiences with this species - cause it is on of my favorite fish. I nature - they form small groups - mostly 2 females anf 1 male. I have try to have them that way, try to introduce new ones and so on. It has ended up with my believe - that this species is best as a single individual - at least in tanks below 120 G

anthias male is wife beater, need to have enough female to take the abuse. if i see problem i can always add more. if they sunburst isnt that expensive i want to do a group of 12. lol

i decide the rock work like this to have enough over hang for them.

oh man sorry to hear.
i only mixed salt 24 hrs before i do water change.
i dont have any on top of the newly mixed salt, i dont know at the bottom. i have use IO for years, the build up of the anticaking agent is completely covered the bottom and the side. lol, i need to clean out the drum this summer.
dino sucks, i ended up reset and add a UV after the reset. i took the UV off line after i started to having issue, i will put the UV back online when i change out my sump. i do think the water is more clear when i use the UV.
yeah just check the RO/DI bucket once awhile make sure it within range.
did you ever did an ICP test?

No ICP test, but (I think) dosing Brightwells Nitrogen, PNS, and reducing lights ultimately killed the dinos. By the time I started dosing all SPS were dead already. So I didn't have to reset completely, but it took weeks to resolve. Still dosing a little of both occasionally and still can't keep new frags. So to the point above about probiotics, that seemingly has not been the case for me.

If you not get the result you wish for after redoing your RO/DI - I would consider changing to the blue bucket.

The Sunburst (Serranocirrhitus latus) have not the same behaviour as other Anthias. nor in the wild. nor in an aquarium IME.

Occurs inshore near coral reefs (Ref. 7300). Also occurs in small groups near caves, ledges and drop-offs (Ref. 9710, 48635). Also a solitary species, sometimes in loose aggregations (Ref. 48635). Secretive, swims upside-down (Ref. 37816).

It is a very secretive species - often hiding in the rockworks. It is territorial but has a cave or drop out as centre for the territory. Most other Anthias males do not have a substrate as center - instead they form a virtual territory in the open water there they try to attract females (in the wild and in mega aquariums). The normal price (when you can get them) is also rather high - above $ 100 here in Europe.

Exactly - as stated in my reference

Compare that with nearly all other Pacific and Red Sea Anthias behaviour in the wild.


The Sunburst of the pacific seems to be more like the Atlantic anthias (anthias anthias) than it relatives in the Pacific


But nevertheless - I was only try to give you an advise about how to keep this fish based on my own experiences - take it or leave it

I'm right there with you guys Sunburst Anthias are my favorite. Very personable and gorgeous!
