You have fish right? You feed your fish right, its not a phosphate issue ?if it was your chaeto plus whole tank would be bleached out and your zoas will be bone white

Even little traces of rust wont do this and like smite said this is necrosis, for the longest time ive had acros burn tips and base to what i thought was alk but i also tested 2/3 times a day for almost 3 months and microdosed with the apex dos system to the point i had 1ppm of an alk swing between dosing and it wasnt that, it came down to either bacteria or pests. If it was bacteria every sps in ur tank will fall apart in 3 days, so i decided to break off 2 year old colonys and dipped. I seen nothing AT FIRST ,the coloneys i dipped an clipped would up taking off so then again i started to dip the rest and bam aefw and some type of planaria, im telling you they are so small i could barely see them with a magglass or at the bottom of a bayer dip. Dip a burnt looking coral and take a closer look its your best bet if everything checks out

Im going to look tonight with a flashlight when the lights goes out. But I have been looking for over 6 months. I would have seen something by now.

Ive must of thought of every possible things, cutting holes in filtersocks, droppin all my vertex media reactors, lowering/higher light/photoperiod stray voltage alk burn , fish, aminos you name it i tryed it and i didnt want to believe or accept the fact that my tank would have pest considering the amount of redundancy and money ive spent not to but i caught a glimps of a flatworm in a revive dip nd that was it

I cant really tell by the photo but if its alk burn no biggie cut the tips but if the skin doesnt grow back and brown algae occurs its most likely a pest or bacteria

You won't be able to see AEFW if you have them. They are a beige color and blend into the coral they are on. Pull a couple and dip them in Coral RX.

I knew someone would chime in on Phos! I battle too high, not too low so great info!
Like stated, you'll have to dip to rule out AEFW, though I've never had only tip loss……..or maybe I did……….

@twilliard, I'm no "expert," but I agree this is a water issue!! Unfortunately…..or fortunately……depending on perspective I've had major coral losses due to virtually every problem possible except for stray current!

if i may....

some corals will exhibit signs of stress on the tips if nutrients are lacking. alk burn or whatever. also... the affected areas are in light. i would probably tone light down a little. (maybe 20%) and monitor.

pests will roast a coral in 30-60 days and dislike direct light.

i do not see this here.

Messing under the stand I found out my two brs's dosers were not sucking the alk and ca. I had to make new tubes. Not sure if this is the cause that I dont think so. This is been going on for ober 6 months. And monday I checked and alk was 9 and ca 430. I do water changes every sunday.

ok. 9 alk and under 5 nitrates is a giveaway.

also. pests will kill a coral in less than 6 months.

i am about 80% confident that you dont have a pest. that thing woulda multiplied and engulfed that coral before then.

Guys all I know is that I already lost over 10 colonies. And no one seems to find the problem. Im confident this time we will. Lots of ideas here.
