I haven’t been able to get any good pictures to accommodate this question, but I’ve had sps losing flesh from the base up (over a couple days), but the polyps remain. Any thoughts on what this could be? Does this sound like pests or rtn? I’ve had this happen several times.

Parameters have been stable, contrary to popular belief, I’m suspecting it could be due to isopods?

could be dying where it is not getting light?

Thanks for the suggestion. I don’t think that is the case? I have 3 kessil 360x with t5s and it is on the top of the rock work.

could be lack of iron, or trace elements. i had this issue on some frags that once repositioned, grew back normally.

I see the coral you are talking about, but look left. That red sps is also STN/RTN.

What are your parameters? Saying they are stable doesn’t give insight on what the problem may be.

Do you have other established acropora that are happy?
I have a few that are. Pink lemonade, pearl berry, and rmf red devil nasuta, and Walt Disney are all looking happy.

The red one I got yesterday and found out the person fresh cut it the day before, so I am anticipate that contributes that one as that is less than ideal.
Temp 76-78
Salinity 35 ppt
pH: 8.1-8.3
Nitrate 5
Phosphate 0.02-0.07
Calcium 425
Alk: 8.6
Mg: 1350
Tank was 50/50 dry and Kp aquatics maricultured rock. — running 6 months.

better shot of the tank

could be due to being freshly cut and put in a new environment.

There are various reason coral lose tissue, color and bleach. The coral may not produce enough waste to sustain its zooxanthellae. Additionally the zooxanthellae will not be able to produce enough photosynthate to sustain the coral. If the deficiency is great enough, the zooxanthellae density will be reduced. Assure you are providing the coral sufficient nutrients which will repopulate zooxanthellae, as well as providing them in a form that requires the least amount of energy to obtain zooxanthellae and use it in which you can assure that there is a good supply of dissolved nitrogen in the water column. A high nitrogen level will probably not be beneficial once a bleached coral recovers, but it can be helpful in the recovery process.

Those are good numbers. The biome can be a tad noisy for the first year and some acros are more sensitive than others. Steady as she goes. Keeping those values together should serve you just fine.

I am going Thur the same problem. Healthy coral the night before to losing tissue in the morning. Nothing is snacking on it. I sent icp last week. But I do reef moonshine so trace should be great. Phos and nitrate .04 and 15.
I am sps dominate tank. 150 gallon 4 hydra 32 and t5. I can't figure it out tbh. Working on losing the 4th colony

How long have these colonies been in this system?
How old is this system? Live or dead rock start?

With these both being new additions. Mounted on your top rocks…I’d say to much par to fast. 200-250 par is ideal for new frags. What par are they in?
