Sad day... [emoji24] [emoji24] [emoji24] [emoji24] [emoji24] [emoji24] [emoji24]

Yep. I wasn't prepared to start dosing and added an order of SPS to my tank, it dramatically changed my water parameters. By the time I bought equipment and started dosing it was pretty much to late.

Lesson learned.

Sooooo sorry to hear that man. Where you at? Got any reefers close by that might donate some frags to get you up and rolling again?

I live in Cincinnati. It's very disappointing, but I'm ok for now. I want to make sure I have everything settled before I start loading up again. Thanks for looking out though.

So sorry to see those sticks but why dint you add Kalk for that time being, its easily available in any store.:(

It all happened pretty quick. I was maintaining my water parameters with just water changes. I didn't notice a change until I saw some bleaching. By then it was to late. Most everything went within a few hours. By the time I went to my LFS and figured out what I needed to increase and maintain my alk, everything else was slowly bleaching. Like I said, I learned my lesson with SPS.

Yes SPS don't give you a lot of clues before they stn. When you add a lot of corals to a tank. You have to be ready to supply them with what they need in a hurry. Once they start growing you have to keep on top of it.

Building a new tank and wanted to get some sps but after this I have to think twice...any advise for a beginner?

Dang that's a serious bummer. Thanks for posting though, it's a good warning for other reefers.

There's always a reason, sometimes it's easily discovered and other times it's not. Had this colony croak in less than 12 hours, suspected high PO4, but healthy acros all around it...

Just out of curiosity what was the PO4 level?

Yes I see no mention of water params so hard to say alk for sure. Do you know what your alk, nitrate and phosphate were testing for at the time? I see 10 frags roughly and 2 small colonies. I can't see that much of a demand happening that quickly.

I meant what was your level when you lost your colony?
