I just thought that I would share my observations with my sps growth in my tank. I have always had lower ph levels in my tank with a daytime high of only at best of 8.0 and nightime levels of 7.8 I have had frags that just never seemed to grow. They would always have good color but just no growth. Some went a year with just maybe alittle bit of encrustation. This past summer I discovered that high co2 levels in my basement has been my cause of low ph for all this time. I installed a radon style of fan that I run during the night time hours. Now my ph is usually 8.38 during the day with lights on and a low of 8.1 at night. I have to say that my growth has really taken off with the higher ph. Corals that havent grown in a year are now sending up new growth all over them. I would have never thought that it would make that big of a difference but it sure has. If your fighting little to no growth take a look at your ph levels.

This is what I’ve been suspecting for some time now. My corals won’t grow, aside from a few montiporas that are SLOWLY growing.

My pH maxes at 8.0 and drops to 7.8 at night.

I had always read of increased growth with the higher pH but on the other hand others saying that the pH range you are experiencing was ok. It might be ok but nothing will grow much. Try and boost your pH and see the difference.

I added a makeshift c02 scrubber to my skimmer, but didn’t see any change in pH. :-(

Opening windows also has no effect. It’s weird as crap.

Back when I lived in much more airy environments, with higher pH, I never had a problem with growth. Now that I live in a house with much better trim, my pH stays low, and my growth is near zero.

Do you carbon dose? I used to sit at 7.6 night and 7.9 day. Once I stopped carbon dosing and let my tanks nutrients levels naturally rise my pH has gone sky high. I now sit at 8.1 night and 8.3 day with nothing else changing.

No carbon dosing.
