SPS in Nano Cube?!- wich equipment do you need?

Hey there fellow reefingmates!
I'm new to the hobby and started off last week with my new dennerle 7.925g nano cube.
I run an Eheim skim350, a JBL heater and a Zetlight ZN1702 Nano led for lighting.
I started of with 77 pounds liferock.

I know the tank needs to cicle a few weeks but i got some question for you concerning sps or more specific montipora and pocillopora. Is it possible to keep them in that kind of a small system and under which conditions do they require?

And...I'm sorry for my bad english! I'm from germany :'D

I used to keep mostly SPS in a nano. You need more time to cycle, more flow, and frequent water changes.

Would you recommend to put in a powerhead for flow ?!
I know i have to wait for the algea to growoff and then send in the clean up crew!

I'll do waterchanges once a week around 1.3 g !

Tanks for your advice. Do you got any other for the sps ?

You're going to need quality test kits.
An ATO. automated top off (look at Tunze)
Once the sps become established you'll probably need to start using a two part dosing product.
Going to need review and the basics of marine tank chemistry, see link below.

Alk:8.5-9
Mag :1400
SG:1.025

Small polyp stony corals need consistency.

Tank you for your advice. What would you take to provide enough flow in that kind of a small system ?

I like this product very much, but it packs a punch. Do not underestimate the power heads ability to send water over the sides of the tank.

The perfect choice though is a Mp10QD, it's what I use.

Would you recommend any sps to start of ? like a cheap frag thats good to test conditions ?

Seriatopora, Stylophora and Montipora. There are some beautiful Pocillopora, but they can become invasive and you do not have a lot of real estate.
Montipora Digitata is great sps and hardy.

I would recommend a Smart ATO for your nano over the Tunze.

Welcome Crabbo, you might want to wait several months to let the tank establish it self. Get the fish in after the cycle and slowly start adding the corals of your choice when the tank parameters are stable.

It's my experience that most sps do the best under random higher flow. Hence the reason that the Vortech's Mp's are such a good product, specifically the reef crest mode. Sps do not want to get blasted all the time, surge and random works the best.

Your tank is small so it's a challenge to find a product that will not overwhelm the size of the tank yet give you random stronger flow.

In that size tank the sps can pretty much go anywhere and get enough light to grow and color up.

I keep in mind to may buy The tunze nano 6020 or 6040. Is The wave Funktion really need for those coral? Cause the 6020 is much more affordable. I can regulate the flow in my skimmer aswell.

So far gone through 3 pumps from Tunze, such a head ache to get them to warranty it. I'm not the only one that has had this problem either. Not saying they are bad but be aware when purchasing just in case the pump goes bad.

No a wave function is not mandatory or essential to keeping sps in small tank.
