SPS in stock biocube

Is that something you installed in addition to the stock biocube lighting? I just have the lights programmed using some settings i found online (pictured below) and modified it a little to fit with the school day.

Well, they are posting the output right on the box. They are not claiming it will do something it will not. As an entry level AOI at that price point, I think they did GREAT!

Yeah, but a lot of new to the hobby people buy these and I'll bet most of them don't even know what PAR is!

Absolutely! The a160we fixture itself is already small but the led matrix is tiny, will easily shine right through that hole. You’ll just have to angle it a bit so the light is directed back into the tank for best coverage and place the sps you wish to keep right in it’s path.

You could even rig it some way so it is attached directly to the lid itself so the fixture will raise with the lid whenever you needed to open it.

I just measured, the fixture face is a bit less than 2.5”, and the matrix itself is about .5”, kinda perfect for this application.

Anything is possible but would it look good absolutely not.

It’s there job too sell and make money. It’s are responsibility too do the research. Its not right but that’s the way it is. But for the record all info is on box.

I guess my 3 cheapest options would be to:

1. Do nothing but have the coral suffer (Free)
2. Find a way to rig a light on top of the existing lid ($100 or so depending on light)
3. Remove the top and make a DIY screen and get a new light ($20 for the screen supplies + price of light)

Most lights are probably going to be approaching the cost of Steve's LEDs. So if you do lights, might as well do Steve's.

Option 4 - Talk to your LFS and explain what happened. See if they will take the corals, and maybe give you some store credit, or swap you for some sofites. Zoas, toadstools, mushrooms?

I got the biocube last year in September directly from the company Coralife so it’s one of the newer ones with LEDs. Here’s a screen shot of the specs according to their website.

The par levels on the 32 gallon LED hood are way higher then what they advertise. The bottom of the tanks lowest par reading seemed to be right around 70
