Mulm triggers a feeding response in my tank too. I don't really vacuum mine out, just stir it up once and awhile.

Some say yes, some say no, some say stir it up once a week, some say never touch it. They're all right, and they're all wrong. Because it all works. There's no right way to do things really, but truthfully there is cause and effect.

You fed your corals. Corals tend to like eating. There's some stigma from the 1980's that they hate it, but they seem to respond well to feeding (yet again, they grow just fine without it too).

I'm glad you removed the diaper water from the sump. It was in a place your corals could not benefit from it but they did stand a good chance of suffering from it if it was left in the system.

Do you feed the corals normally? Sure they get excited when planktonic sized bacteria globs get kicked up in the water column, but they also like the newly added dissolved elements in the 12 gallons of replacement water that you fed them. Keep it up, the corals you have are going to be fantastic specimens when they get a little bigger.

Sometimes I “accidentally” let some of my skimmate get back into my tank by opening the little drain plug on my cup. Sometimes I “accidentally” kick up some gunk from the sump. All is well, I do notice not using a filter sock does help with PE this time around vs my previous set up.

Thank you for the coralpliment. I feed the hell out of my acros with 450-600 par and then the fish feed them at night. There’s plenty of nutrients because I don’t use a skimmer. I just couldn’t stand the look of all that muck.

I have a skimmer, but I let my wife feed her fish and the corals are very happy with that.

I lean towards the leave the sump alone camp, let that be the dirty place with of bunch of crap going on.

But as mentioned corals like food. mine are much happier now that I've increased feedings and raised nutrient levels.

I might not even be the food.......it might be the water change. My SPS perks up every weekend when I would do a water change.
