SPS loosing color/lps dieing

Hello,

I been having LPS die and now my sps color have faded drastically . Even my montiporia plates are getting white spots but I see no nuti branch.

I have 19 fish. Wrasses, tnags

The only thing I can think of is, I removed my marinepure block from my sump and mineral mud that was 2 years old. I got it all out without any thing getting into the tank. I shopped vac it.

then added rock and cheto. I removed the block bc my ICP test showed aluminum in my tank.

then I did 3 20% water changes within a month. Normaly I do them once per month.

I clean the sand bed here and there so I don’t think a month of sitting could kill things off?



Anyways my Nutrients seem higher. Even after water changes. I also am replacing my T5 bulbs as I also have a led lights. Got great growth. I also got new filter shocks thinking maybe the ones I wash in washer are bad but I clean my washer out good.

I does BRS 2 part per day. Cal 155ml, alk 110, mag 50

There are a whole lot of changes you mentioned, all in a short period of time. Many of them can contribute to the issues you are having. Going to be hard to nail one down.
I do see that you are a full point high based on your "normal" levels. Take that with several other smaller things and I think you found your culprit
Slow down. Do changes one at a time over a longer period of time. Your tank will thank you for it

thats alot of good points. My lps was dieing off before all the changes, that’s why I made the changes. Maybe my sps are the way because of my changes...

I hope it was a good call removing the marinepure and mineral mud

Change can be good and can be bad, but it requires doing it slowly, not abruptly and with reasoning for change. ICP tests are good, but rarely offer remedy and leading to guesses for improvement.
I would take a good size water sample to a trusted LFS and see what reading they get to compare with yours and to note changes since the ICP results.

In a recent BRS video about lessons learned on their BRS 160 they talked about going from a sand substrate to bare bottom... and how removal of the sand was very upsetting to the system. They even went so far as to say that if you start the tank with sand you have to keep sand.

My guess is that removal of the marinepure block and/or the mineral mud has had a similar consequence to your system.

As for what to do... I suppose you could put them back in or otherwise just wait for the tank to adjust to the new normal.

When you had the Miracle mud in your tank did you change out portions overtime for maintenance? Or was the whole batch 2 years old? When I used mud I changed out small portions every 6 months. I think your mud was expiring that is what caused your initial lps issues. I would have left half the mud in there and replaced the other half with new mud. Just from my experience. After a month take out small portions at a time until you have no more left in the tank. What kind of rock did you put into the sump to replace the mud?

Hey, I’m my refug it can be closed off. So I QT it and cleaned it all up. Took the mud out and marinepure block. Then I added Marco rock that was dry long ago. It’s been in my tank so I just re added it.

I did that to solve the lps issue. I do believe my clam died of Brussels worms. I did not have them for years and they just showed up.my friend said if your clam is just in the sand theBrussels worms will eat the foot.

I don’t see myself using mineral mud in the future.
