I have a strawberry shortcake that is slowly turning all pink and a grape juice that has already turned all purple. I am getting good PE so I think they're ok with my water...is that just a sign to turn my light intensity down?

12 gallon tank, ca is 410, alk 7.2. I attached my lighting schedule showing peak intensity. I'm using 2 AI primes about 12" above water line, but my tank is only 9" tall.

Someone suggested dosing iron to help with the greens. I don't have a refugium but I do 2 gallon water changes twice a week. I'd think given the water changes there should be plenty of trace elements but I'm up for trying anything. Will iron promote algae growth though?

TIA

Its most likely Iron deficiency or lighting. Lower lighting seems to produce more greens in most SPS. As for iron the consumption rate may vary based on your corals and water changes which are adding the trace elements. Usually most salts out there have a lower amount of iron. To much iron and it will contribute to nuisance algae. Hope this helps.

Also if you have ULNS system you may want to try dosing products like Neo Nitro for additional nitrates or even up your feeding a bit. I found when certain SPS acros (like WWC Madman Austera) are looking dull or lacking green its usually due to lower nitrates.

Hmm I bet that's it. I just started dosing vibrant too. I'm going to start feeding everyday and checking nitrates more often. Thanks for the suggestions!

SSC loosing greenish base color most probably due to light spectrum issue. I corrected mine after i changed my light to a better one.

You changed it to have more light or less light? I've seen a lot of AI prime settings that are using up to 90-100% blues. I've been ramping mine up very slowly, at 75% peak right now. But from what I've been reading, if it's a lighting issue I might actually be giving too much light at the moment. The strange thing is that my red planet actually has more green right now than it used to.

Tried to take a cell phone pic but you can't really see the colors here. Strawberry shortcake with still a little bit of green but not as much as before on the left. Grape juice second from left that's completely purple now. On the bright side, Pc rainbow 3rd from left has awesome colors now though lol

You will lose green w high light . You dosed vibrant will lower your neutrients therefore enhancing your par and losing greens. More neutrients or less light they will come Back

Mine lose the greenish base due to too much blue for extended time. I used to run my diy led for 9 hours at constant intensity (single channel). Now I am running another diy led (3 channels) in sequence or more or less like ramping up/down mode with 3 hours full spectrum all channels fully on. Color is back with nice greenish blue base and bright pink tip.
