Hi everyone. Take a look at these pictures please. It is a mystery to me as to what is occurring to a few of my frags. I have dipped and inspected for pests multiple times since I noticed this 6 weeks ago, nothing found. I have no fish that pick or peck either. I have kept sps for the last 15 years. All my parameters are stable and monitored vigilently. This particular tank is 18 months old. It looks like tissue spotting down to the skeleton. It does not worsen or improve over the weeks although the spots seem to move. I am a bit stumped! Thanks for any thoughts guys

Mesenterial filaments, normally a stress reaction or a feeding response. Maybe the wedding happening on the coral is irritating it :) Just kissing but just make sure everything is in line parameter wise. Nothing else is showing filaments?

The occurrence is just on a miyagi tort and a paleta purple, they are still encrusting and have polyps out. Everything else seems to be ok. I have a ton of zoas in this tank so maybe it could be a form of alleopathy. I am reluctant to run carbon as my nutrients are low and I don't want to zero out the nitrate or phosphate completely

+1 rare but MF will come out to combat nearby corals or when feeling stressed. Greatest part is, they’re alive!!!

Hmmm, thanks for your replies; would it more likely be a water parameter cause of stress or a physical cause like an irritant?

I wouldn’t put it on the zoas, but running carbon won’t lower nitrates much whatsoever, it should just clear the water and remove any nasty stuff in it. I normally use it when I see this happen. I actually just started seeing them on the body of two acros and put some in the tank passively since it’s been a while and it should help clear the water some anyways. If you see them coming from the encrusting areas of fragments overnight it’s a good thing. But normally if it’s on the smooth areas of the body of the acro it’s not a good thing.

Your nutrients are likely too low. IME this is often a negative feeding response to N and/or P being too low.

Ok thanks guys for your advice. I have now harvested my chaeto, reduced my already diluted nopox dosing to 1ml a week ( from 1ml every 4 days) and will see how it goes over the next few weeks with slow raising of nutrients and the sps reaction.
