Sps Nightmare

Spikes seem to be fine as long as nutrients aren't dangerously low. Otherwise, most spikes IME just harm color a bit. Spikes below 5 dKH can be brutal, and that could be more PH related as well.

Most people forget that it was once pretty common to run 15-20 dKH.

Chaswood, happy to hear you didn't lose much!
So far the losses have been minimal considering what happened. Your higher nutrients hypothesis could very well be what saved my sps and sanity as my no3 has been at 25 and my po4 was 0.20-0.25 (70-85 ppb)

you keep forgetting to mention it's probably the GFO you're using that's saving your a55!

I almost forgot:-). I would of thought after changing 90% of the water my po4 would gone down significantly but it only dropped to 0.16 from 0.21. Oh well.

I just spent 3.5 hours putting everything back in the display. Everything looks pretty happy considering all the stress. Everything except the wife that is. I’ll take a couple pics later. Thanks again everyone

I woke up this morning and heard my kamoer dosing continuously running and discovered it had added over 750 ml of alk. I quickly ripped out as much sps as I could and placed them in my frag tank. I know they were exposed to the alk spike for less than 6 hours, but I’m guessing the alk is at least 40 dKh and could be as high 60 dKh. My Hanna checker is flashing 20. I had to make a delivery for work and am back home about to do a massive water change as soon as the new water temp comes down a bit.
Yikes! Which kamoer pump is it? Bluetooth?

Good luck to you. I hope you don’t lose anything.
I just noticed this thread. Equipment will break or malfunction.

So the majority of the Tenuis look pretty good. Not great but better than I thought they would. The non Tenuis, Montis, zoas, palys, gorgonians look like nothing ever happened. So far that is.

Keep us updated each week. It seems your corals survived. It’s great to see that it is definitely possible to survive such an ordeal. While the shock probably knocked a few off your life, it was definitely invaluable to the community!

So it’s been almost 2 weeks since the alkomic bomb and I’m happy to report there have been no new losses. What’s even more surprising is everything actually looks better than before and the incident seems to have sparked a growth spurt. Probably a result from a 100% water change but my alk consumption has significantly increased and my no3/po4 keep dropping despite feeding more.

Love this. Glad things are going good and it sparked the corals to grow more! I love my calcium reactor and have two valves inside mine just in case one desires to break or clog. Never had an issue with it.
