SPS not consuming Alk

Looks like a typical new tank almost way to sterile. Obviously your biome is just getting started and you don't have sufficient biodiversity and microfauna yet to support it. The most important element in this hobby is patience and perhaps you should embrace it if you want to be successful. You have a nice set up and good lighting but the key aspects of a successful reef take time. You may be able to sustain your corals because you have a nice set up but to see good growth and color takes time especially with acros. I would be satisfied that they are not dying out at 6 months. That means you are on the right path but real growth needs for tank maturity in my opinion.
Do you think it is worth to start with something? Like all for reef. I am dosing kalk at night

You indicate indicate in your first post that the tank is not using alk in measurable amounts daily. This is normal for a 6 month tank. Weekly water changes will handle all your major and trace elements requirements. As the tank continues to mature in the coming months monitor your alk. Once you start seeing decent measurable daily consumption then you know it's time to dose. Alk and calcium typically get consumed proportionally and magnesium gets consumed at 1/10th the amount of the other 2. For reference I dose 40ml of alk and calcium daily. I hand dose magnesium and red sea trace once a week in between water changes.

That tank is brand new

Still has the tags attached

Try and keep algae from growing on the frags with flow and baster

If they don't die they will start growing

Don't be surprised if you get a few rounds of "the uglies" before that happens. Expect it even, plan for it

At that stage, I feed heavy and filter heavy

Try and keep everything absolutely stable

Don't make any fast changes even to your lights, especially increases

That's all I got, except have patience

Why?

Your corals aren't growing right now

They will later

Your tank chemistry parameters are probably what your salt mix new salt water parameters are. And will be until they start growing

You can keep those tank parameters stable by water changes for now

If you want to dose stuff

Dose your bacteria, MB7 Dr Tim's whatever. Just an ml a day, a 'bloop'

Dose a jar of copepods

Dose new salt water(water changes)

I would also get a macro algae reactor or equivalent set up. You have more waves of uglies coming

Is consuming 0.2-0.3 daily according to trident

Growing little . Watee changes can keep properly for sure

Now my alk consumption is around 0.5 daily. Kalkwasser at night 1.5 liter + 10ml of all for reef everyday.

Corals are growing! I noticed a faster pace in the last month, do not why. Could be all for reef (trace etc, idk).

Now treating byoprisis with fluco... :(

I had the exact same problem when my tank was new. I would turn on the calcium reactor and the next day my ALK was at 14. Now I have the Calcium reactor maxed out and I still have to dose 2 part. Just give it time.

Hi all,

I have a 80g tank, currently, with 14 AcroporaFrags for about 15-20 days. Colors look fine, I have 2mp40 + gyre and 8x39w ATI T5 for lighting.

I am monitoring my KH with trident and salifert. I was doing 15% water change weekly with tropic marin salt.

Also dosing power elixir from Aquaforest daily + Zeobak (once a week).

My kh does not change over the week, so I suppose that is no consume happening. KH is currently in 8.5 and does not change a lot, like it does to 8.4 and 8.7.

Any ideas?

Thank you so much,
Don't worry!
I had the same concern when I first setup.
18 months later I'm using 2-2.5dkh a day from rampant coraline growth, clams & SPS.
When uptake starts you will know!
Just monitor as you are but don't stress over it too much it's normal.
Or as normal as anything involving corals can be!
