Hi Guys,

How do my Nutrients look for SPS?

Recently started to try getting them stable after them being very very high for months due to using out of date test kits

Running low residuals is only safe if you are feeding super frequently, like 4-8 times a day. Export all you want, but you have to have a lot of fish poop passing through the system to run nutrients so low.

Otherwise you need to dial back the export and keep a little more residual around for rainy days.

I recommend that you understand the difference between available building blocks and residual. Available is what you are after, but it is harder to understand. Residual is fools gold.

Nitrogen from ammonia/ammonium is best for micro algae - nitrate is very hard for most corals to use and does not do what people think that it does, but it is easy to measure and even easier to misunderstand. Heavy import and heavy export is the key with lower residuals.

All of this said, if your tank is fairly new, like your join date, then don't sweat this too much yet since your tank still has to mature.
