I have some SPS corals coming home tomorrow. I was expecting to have a combo t5 (2 coral plus bulbs) and a metal halide 20k & 14k bulbs. Unfortunately my light is delayed so right now all I have is two ati t5 coral plus bulbs. There are currently no other corals in the tank so how do you suggest I photo acclimate my corals?
I was thinking:
1) Should I put them in the places I want them to stay and do an 8 hour light cycle with the two t5s. Once I get my combo t5/halide light I'd run it on a 4 hour light cycle, ramping it up 1 hour every week until I get to 10 hours.
2) Or, I was going to start them on an 8hr light cycle with the 2 t5s. Once I get the combo light I would put 5 extra screens over the top of my tank removing 1 per week on an 8hr cycle. Once the screens are gone the next two weeks the light cycle would get longer by an hour, reaching a 10hr cycle.
3) Start them in the sand bed and when I get my combo light to move them closer to the places I want them to stay once a week. I just don't think the two t5s are enough to have SPS all the way in the sand bed.
I would love to hear your opinions.
