Has anyone figured out a way to qt sps with no fish present? Concern here is ich and velvet that may come in on frags, want to let them sit fallow.

As long as your water parameters are good, you shouldn’t have any issues. It’s not always needed to have fish with them to be successful.

have several tangs and chromis in our qt and have never had an issue with any sort of fish disease coming in on the frags. When we receive SPS we immediately cut them from their bases and re glue them onto fresh plugs or plates.

Right. But if you acquire them from someone who has ich present in their tank, arent they likely to carry it in and when they hatch be around your fish?

We receive corals 3-4 days a week and almost never get a chance to look into the tank they came from. We get them from wholesalers and hobbiests alike. Honestly it's not something I've ever even considered. By cutting the frag off of it's base I'm left with nothing but coral, most pest reside in the rock or on the plug, not on the coral itself. The pests on the coral are usually taken care of with dip and a stiff brush. Been using this method for several years with great success. The 4 tangs and 5 chromis in my QT have been in there since the day the cycle completed.
