here is a better shot of the right coral and greening.....

here is the red planet when introduced... note the bone white rock i glued him to.

left is a red planet (top most photo). it looked like a strawberry shortcake when i bought it. its been in my system for 6 weeks and turned in to THAT.

on the right... adam from battle corals sent me this red tabling turd. i told it it had to take my lighting or get out of my tank looking like that. just below the top you can see a hint of green. it flouresces under actinics but i wanted to pit your eye to it. dont worry. in a few days i will show you this thing will fluoresce green in spots and be more aparent.

on the left we have a green going away. on the right we having a fluorescing green incoming.

my question is. what do you guys think? unicorn foal batter doesnt come out til next year and i wanna know what your experiences with reds and how they go are.

here are my parameters and they are very stable.

temp: 79f
mag: 1385
alk: 7.6
ph:8.1
nitrate: 3.5
po4: 0.01
salinity: 1.026
calcium: 420
potassium: 424
iron: undetectable
iodine: 0.05

ALL speculations welcomed!

What lighting are these under?
120 3w bridgelux with t5 blue+ supplemental.

par meter without the t5 supplements

corals are in the 370 par range. (no. my daughter isnt for sale)

I think the number one answer to your question is time, give them some time to encrust and get a little new growth and I bet you start to see some better colors.

awwww.

but to your point these observations could be premature. as long as i am not trapping myself in to a bad situation i am fine.

was just curious everyone else's thoughts.

Do they look a lot better in person than the picture?

top pic with red planet is exactly how i see it. right red turd is close. you cant see the green incoming. but the top photo is very accurate to my eye.

id go with the top shot as an accurate line to what i see in my tank. minus missing the flourescing right coral.

I agree time. My RP use to change colors based on the age of my bulbs, and placement. It would take a couple weeks, but had the same large colony go from pale, to green, to only red, to green base red polyps. An extremely hardy coral give it more time. If you're not getting the color you want in a month or so just change placement.

its not really the colors im looking for. just why it is darker and purple/deep red i see.

like if i wanted to tweak it.

Russ have you thought about lowering the red planet to see if it greens up a bit?
yeah. definitely. i kinda like it the reddish purple color. i was just wondering why it was getting so hardcore about the darker red/purple im seeing.

is it really the pur? nutrients im not looking for? you know... that kinda thing

I have two pieces. One that is higher up is a dark red with very little green. Lower one has more green with red tips. The one sitting lower has only been in tank for a short time. Was pretty much brown at first.

awesome!
you know around which the par that upper guy is getting?
or inches below whatever fixture your using is?

parameters to share?

this stuff helps a ton

Not sure on the par. Upper one sits about mid way up in my 125. Sitting under 60" 6 bulb sunpower. Also have 2 diy royal blue ked bars. 27 3 watt chips each at 100%.

Lower one is approximately 3_4" lower than the other. This one is still coloring up

so 18 inches below the sunpowers? sorry for the specifics

Ok this under MH Phoenix 150 watts roughly 300 par. What color do you want out of the coral specifically, just not so purple, some contrast with green?
You can see how many different colors I went through with this coral, it turned into a huge colony that I fragged and fragged........

i actually like the purple with red tips. but i think it will change fully purple before it is all done.
if i had a choice. id like to back the purple off and get it reddish.
thanks for the photos tahoe

bump. how to back off the purple? less light? more?

more white spectrum?
