“You dip your corals 1st”. What dip do you use? Maybe leaving in too long or mixing up improperly?

As others have said your water parameters especially your alk is higher than most vendors. You should find out what they are from them so that you know what kind of swing your corals are experiencing. I would also agree to lower your alk in your current system. Get closer to natural sea levels to eliminate another variable. AND drip assimilation would be good to make sure you don’t shock your corals.

I keep my Alk at 10.5 and my tank is SPS dominant. I do how ever keep my nutrients from going too low. Usually my corals like my Nitrates between 15-20. I can automatically tell when my Nitrates have gone below those numbers because my Acros will start looking a little pale and the growth has slowed down. I do however know that a lot of vendors keep their Alk a lot lower so when I do get a new coral I always acclimate them till the Alk is the same as in my tank. Everyone has their own way of getting their tanks to work. I wouldn't do too many changes at once. If your nutrients are low I would try to raise that a bit first and see how your corals react. Trying to lower your Alk is going to upset other corals in your tank that are doing well especially if you do it too quickly. Maybe just raising your nutrients will solve your problem.

One year old system still young. Ecosystem setting up to have nutrients in equal nutrient out by consumption. I’m trying to figure out what makes alk of 10 plus in the tank when the salt mixes at 9. Dosing?

Usually. Do you alk test each batch of new water before changing it?

Okay thank you very much, my nutrients are very low phosphates are 0.5, I’m going to have to check my nitrates tomorrow but I do use gfo in my reactor maybe I should not use gfo?
Also what salt would you recommend I know most salts are the same companies just add more of one thing or another,I’m thinking reef crystals would be the way to go
I had an sps rtn after a water change. I was using reef crystals which mixes a high alk. I have been weaning my tank off of reef crystals and have been slowly lowering my alk using the brightwell salt which runs alk at a level much closer to seawater. Hope this helps.
