I’ll be setting up a SPS only tank to just grow out and enjoy. I need some inspiration of your grow/frag setups please share young knowledge.
I’m debating on tank sizes and everything still. I have a 90 just lying around but idk if I should go with two smaller tanks or one big tank.

thank you everyone for your suggestions and pictures! Happy Reefing

Hello!
I can share with you a unusual tank style.
I wanted something big but with minimal water volume as possible... focused also in SPS only and very easy to handle it:
220 cm x 45 cm x 30 cm (H).
Still young but, I’m enjoying a lot compared to my other tanks.

I fully agree! I’ve never had such strange grow like this :)
As you can imagine this is my favourite one...
It is a loripes.

Here is my grow out set up. 3 tanks and three sumps all connected. 300G total volume.
2 X 80G deep blue for SPS
1 X 40G breeder for LPS and SPS QT.

The 40 can be easily segregated from the other two.

When I redo this, I will drop down to one 10' long raceway with commensurate sump and hang one LPS tank off from that. 3 tanks is just too many separate pieces of equipment to manage and power. And my cord management skills are non-existent.

The real moral of my story is this: if you do >1 tank, that is fine. But tie them together so you only manage 1 water system. Just install some valves so you can segregate if necessary.

What if I ran 40b with xr30 pro did 2 with a 40b sump? I know the light has a recommended 24x24 spread but if I raised em a little higher than 8” (which is BRS recommended Hightower) I might get more coverage of the tank. What do you guys think?

A 90 gallon is a fine tank to have , it’s 4’ long so two lights are needed . You could get a cube tank with only 1 light . Save a little cash . But a 4’ long tank is classic , and tang friendly.

How many tangs I want to have 3-4 tangs and buy them small let them grow into the tank. A wrasse for pest control and maybe one more all utility fish.

A 90 can handle that many tangs .
I have a 90 also . They are fine and all but if I had a do over I would get a 60” long tank like a 150 long . They are 60/24/25 the reason for this size is 2 lights will still work decent. Save some money and still get a large aquarium. Less electricity to . I seen a aquarium that was 60/27/27 I think he said it was a 190 . Still just 2 lights.

90 gallon is a good size for a sps species only tank. I would run it bare bottom so you can turn up the flow. Easy to make water corrections but not too small to be super volatile and unstable.

Just started this new sps grow out tank. Currently cycling. It is a 50g low boy (48", 24", 10"). I added in an AIO filter chamber system by cutting acrylic and siliconing it in because I wanted to experiment with skimmerless/sumpless systems a bit. Hopefully things will work out. Already have coralline one month in!!!

If you have a 90g laying around i would use that and save the money for lights if your gonna need them for the new setup and or get a bunch of corals with the money you save.

That’s a really cool setup!
