I set up a 150 gallon tank planning for it to be an SPS only tank but then I hit the jack pot! My old co-worker just bought a house and is looking to start fresh and gave me a majority of her chorals! Huge goni's torches and random montipora I initially came over for,(and I got the okay from her to frag them as needed!) sorry if I'm bragging but I had to share why it's important to have friends in the community around you! Not just to help them but if you ever have a problem or situation, it's certainly nice.

But what would be everyone's favorite SPS coral selection for a 150g and up tank?

Congrats on the score and you can’t go wrong with some montis and acros!

Congrats on the score! I would love to see a monti digitata and other branchy/plating monti-themed tank. Acropora is the pinnacle of sps keeping but I think we miss out on seeing a lot of colorful montis because of this, plus they’re way easier to keep.

Agreed I love monti's and would think that would look bad butt! But it's the challenge of acro's I feel we want to grow

Totally understandable. I’ve done the exact same thing from softies to lps to sps. We’re always looking for a challenge. One of the most vexing ones for me is bubble tip anemones. I’ve had HORRIBLE luck with them for some reason that I can’t fathom and it bugs me, lol.

I’m planning on having some SPS in my tank. I think I’ll end up going for a few montis and acros eventually. But I’m the meantime I’m looking at pocis, stylos, Pavona, and leptos

To be honest bubble tip anemones are what really got me into the hobby! I just always had them under medium flow and feed them once a week. Some will move to try to find their happy place some like to find the happy place in the rocks under low flow, then try pumping the flow up, if you can keep your tank on low flow that is. Also what size are you getting? Water parameters? If this is a serious question, you should make a form under the invertebrate category!

My suspicion is that it was stability related back before I ran dosing pumps and calcium reactors. I used to manually dose kalk solution and probably ph shocked them. That’s my best guess because corals in the same tank didn’t have any issues. I’d say I had it at 25x turnover and all indirect flow and these were a wide variety of anemone sizes, all had healthy coloration. I also like the idea for an anemone care thread. It’s happening people!

I really appreciate your input and highly agree with the high flow, is acceptable!
