Hi Guys,

What are your thoughts on the following photo?

I have a decent QT process. All coral goes into my QT tank for four weeks. Coral is inspected weekly and dipped each week if needed. These corals were doing fine the entire way through the process, only needed to be dipped twice, once on entry to QT and once on entry to the display.

Things went downhill in the display after about 6 weeks, where other coral is doing perfectly fine.

Sorry the blue background isn't the best for photos.

This frag is also showing STN

High salinity and temperature is one cause as would be low ph, and alk

Yeah, basically big jumps in any parameters, Salinity, Temp, Alk, Nitrate, Phosphate. Results can be delayed too. If you had an Alk spike (up or down) a week or more ago, you could still be seeing the aftermath. The frags look new and I don't see any coraline algae, what's the age of the tank?

I dont have an apex or anything on this tank but when ever i check the temp its at roughly 25-26.

So im manually dosing twice a week, a maximum of 10ml of ALK, sundays and wednesday so yea there is certainly a swing in perameters (have a doser on the way).

Nitrates and Phosphates are super low also.

The tank is four months old, correct there is no coraline yet, but growth on the other sps has been good.

I have about 10 other SPS frags which are doing great, here is a picture of a couple of them.

The two frags in question are the only ones showing issues.

What are you dipping those with? They kinda look like they have been dipped too much in CoralRx or Revive, which can really do a number on smooth skinned acropora.

IMO, temp is a little low. I'd shoot for 26-26.5. Phosphate is a bit low, Nitrate is A LOT low. For Salinity, I shoot for NSW which is 1.0264. How much is your dkh swinging when you dose?

But the real elephant in the room is your tank age. IMO it's too early for acros. Some will definitely disagree with me, but I've seen far too many acros killed (my tank too) with young tanks. It looks like you started with dead rock, so you're probably looking at the 1-1.5 year mark before you see real success with acros. Some may live, most will not. But again, it's just my opinion from my personal experience.

How many acros have issues like this and how many are in the tank doing fine? If it’s just those two acros messed up and the rest are fine I would not worry. Not every coral does well and there are always a few that just don’t acclimate right and in a newer tank have issues like this or just die from the transition. I would also be careful with dips like jda said, they can stress smoother pieces really easily and they just won’t recover like other pieces. Everything else looks fine imo and shouldn’t cause issues alone.
