Alright I have a ORA Joe the Coral frag that was doing well in my tank. I replaced my 250w MH and moved the coral to a different/permanent location in the tank. It started to lose its coloring and is now mostly white with a little hint of color. I thought it was dead, but it still has polyp extensions. It has been like this for a little over 2 months. Could it just be that the new light shocked it and it will color back up in the future?

What's your params??? I had this kind of problem one time ad thought it was the lights come to find out my mag was low it tottally made sense why my calcium and alk was fluctuating although my ph held strong so I never even thought of checking it.... Check your mag it is the most important in keeping everything else stable.... I have to dose the crap out of my tank it seems something is just eating my mag up...:(

My Mag is a little high because I was fighting a few patches of bryopsis, which is now gone. My alk and calcium may have been fluctuating during this period. The last test I did my mag was at 1600, Alk 7dkh, calcium 400.

I have a 34 gallon Red Sea Max and the coral is a little below the halfway point of the tank. All of my other SPS seem to be doing great with the exception of this piece. It is really wierd.

I am going to try to bring my Mag down and get the Alk and Calcium more stable and see if that helps this piece.

Did you just replace your bulbs or upgrade them? Was the coral down lower and you replaced your bulbs?

I just replaced the bulbs. I had a 250w Reflux 12k and replaced it with a 250w phoenix 14k. The coral is now a little lower than before, but more under the light than before. If that makes sense.

Yep, it makes sense to me. Did you ramp up your photoperiod under the new bulb or did you just replace the bulb and go back to your normal photoperiod?

I just went back to my normal photoperiod.

Most likely you bleached your coral(s). Anytime we change bulbs, the intensity is greater. Just think about how your skin reacts for the first time you get some nice summer rays. We need to acclimate them over a week or so. It should recover, but for now, cut you photoperiod in half 1smile1

i switched from xm20k to xm10k and everything looked great when the photo period was cut back and after a month my reefready grape juice bleaced to a bright almost white color with a blue tint and never came back..
:( althou my la laker monti also bleached and it is coming back slowly but it still has great polyp ext. bright purple polyps on a white coral..lol
it was wierd it took a month or just a little over a month before it happened and when it did it went in like 3 days... good luck i hope it rebounds for ya..:)
