Sps under kessils?

I am using 3 kessils and 4 T5 on a 180. They are mounted way up off the water over 12", almost 18". The kessils peak at 60%. I am getting growth on montipora comparable to my experience with MH. I'm impressed.

Three of which Kessil (e.g. A360, AP700, etc.)? At 15", an A360 is taking a major hit to intensity.

A360. I know I'm running less units than recommended (one every 24") and much higher than recommended (just measured - bottom of fixture is 14.5" from surface of water) - thats why I was so surprised to be seeing growth comparable to MH. Most of the T5s are way off the surface of the water as well, with reflectors angled. Not sure if the LEDs or T5s are doing the "heavy lifting" but either way, I'm happy with the results.

Isn't this a tank that got bought from someone with a YouTube channel?

No you have it the other way round, this tank was started from scratch and this is the last video before it was sold to upgrade. Nathan updated regular videos over the last two years showing the progress.

I have been running 2 kesill 360s with 2, 48 inch T5s on a 4 foot tank for a little over a year now. I love the look, but really could use a 3rd kessil. Growth is pretty good, the lights are high to get a more even spread, probably 15 or 16 inches off the water. The 360s run for 14 hours a day, 8 hours at 100% intensity, with a 3 hour ramp on each end. The 2 T5s run for 10 hours.

Very beautiful tank and can't wait to follow your build on the RS Reefer 750 XXL. Good luck [emoji106][emoji256]

I have a 180 gallon tank with 5 A360s and 4 80 watt t5s. The Kessils were running at 95% for 8 hours with 1 hour ramp up and down (10 total hours). The t5s would come on for 5 hours a day.

I checked the par levels with a seneye and I was only getting around 200 par at a 6 inch depth. My Acros were not coloring up and were bleaching out.

I decided to turn of the T5s and the corals seem to be responding better and starting to color back up. However, I do have some shadowing in the tank.

Should I reduce the intensity and turn back on the t5s? How fast can I make that change?

I run 2 ap700 over my 120 gallon reef ready tank, 48x24x24 inch. I have no shadowing at all, in fact I have had trouble finding the sweet spot with this set so far. I was at 45% but dropped the intensity after I burned a last dragon frag, I now run it at 40%

^ Anything over 50% intensity with any Kessil is entering the danger zone for most folks with these lights.

Yea no kidding. I've debated raising them but I'm happy only needing to use less than half the intensity. They should come out with a warning not to start higher than 30% right off the bat. Haha. Also a way to increase acclimation length would be nice.

How do you like the ap700's? I've heard they had issues with the apps and that there were some bugs associated with it. I also heard the user interface is lacking. What's your opinion on the ap700 overall, not just the light output? Thx

I have no problem with the app. All those concerns are likely from before the actual app was released. I connect straight to the light and not through the router way. I have never had any issues with flicker or on/off at random times. I will say that I'm new to led and I have had a large learning curve as I'm used to mh and set and forget. I've loved the ability to swap colors but at the same time I'm sure that ability to so easily change causes issues with acclimation. Ap700 is super powerful and that is another learning curve. To answer your question about the interface. I have not used any other program but I'm sure it lags behind Ecotech. I actually don't mind what Kessil has done. It is simple and works well for me.

I dont have good pics yet but ever since I've stopped shooting for ulns my corals have taken off with growth with my ap700. They are all basing out and growing over dead spots from my endeavors with low nutrients and alk burning.

How do you guys have your a360we's hanging over the tank? I'm looking for a clean look over a rimless tank. Second question, do you think I need more than 2 A360we over a 36x18x18h tank? I got sps running g the entire length of the tank. What intensity should I set the less at to start out. I don't want to burn my sps. The sps sits from sand to about 9" from the surface. Thx
