sps white tips

New to sps and was wondering how can you tell when a sps has white tips if it is growing or bleaching out? is there a difference?

have this on some sps burnt/w algae on them and not on others. PH 7.8-8.1 alk. 6.5dkm -7.4dkh PO4 .07ppm NO3 8-9ppm Ca 420 . ? Was dosing sodium nitrate at .8ppm for 3 weeks and now for the past 2-3 every 2-3 days. went from .75ppm to 8-9ppm NO3 ????? NO Algae just coraline.
