Why did you decide to go barebottom?Working on going bare bottom. Need coralline to fill in on the bottom glass and still adding corals. Long way to go but Im enjoying the journey!

I decided to go this rout for the fact that I would be able to add more flow to the reef and to keep detritus down. Having more flow to all my corals with out having sand bars everywhere is kind of nice. Im able to have my Vortechs aiming at each other from opposite sides letting the two currents collide to create a more random and chaotic flow pattern. SPS are loving it!!

Cool, yea definitely makes sense. Was curious if it was that or just related to nutrient issues or something. Tanks looking great. Where did you get the yeti monti?

Awesome tank! Took me about a week but just finished the whole read. Awesome workmanship love everything about your build! Looking forward to seeing everything "grow up"!
Has me questioning keeping my Marine Pure block I added a week ago. I think I'd literally cry if my across started RTN....
Good call on going bare bottom my current tank is bb and I don't think I'll ever go back. It's nice knowing detritus isn't settling in the sand and it's easy enough just to blow off the rocks once a week.

Is it just me/the photo or is that an absurd amount of encrusting vs branching ha? Looks great either way, I've always been curious why some corals base out more than others vs growing vertically. I have a frag of CC ***** Yella Tenius that has doubled in height but hasn't even encrusted the plug. Then I have others that just encrust away with minimal growth elsewhere. Obviously some types of acros do this more than others but definitely not the only factor obviously.
Btw is that tyree pink lemonade or some type of limeade or something?

Thanks! Yes this is Tyree Pink and yes it has encrusted a bunch. I think there's a couple factors or a combination of them that determine how much a coral will encrust before it starts to branch. Overall health of the coral, species, type of coral (bottle brush, stag horn, tabling etc) placement, flow (being an important one) light and surrounding corals IMO to name a few.

For some reason Pink Lemonade never did any good in my last system but this guy is taking off
Had the same experience with my first frag of it. Hasn't grown at all. I got a second frag from a friend and placed it at the same height and general area and it took over 6 months to take off, but now is growing extremely well.

Anxious to see how the blueberry grows for you, mine is one of the faster growers in the tank. Nor did it lose any of its colors. Great looking piece.

Thanks for taking the time to read!! I know it's a lot! Taking the Marine Pure out was a bit of a let down. The idea is awesome but I had that doubt so I moved it off line. Im not sure if it ever leeched aluminum and there was never really any proof that it ever did but to be on the safe side...
Im loving bare bottom and so are my SPS! So far Im glad I went that route.
