spspirates 150 gallon build

Well..........my theory on magnesium is this. If I keep my magnesium at a target of 1350ppm then I only have a window of 50ppm to play with before I would be bumping it up and I would be checking magnesium about as much as I would calcium. At this level I can have it gradually fall as it keeps my alkalinity and calcium balanced before I need to bring it up again. I don't know of any ill effects that a elevated magnesium level would have on stony corals. I try to have a target between 1450ppm-1600ppm. Specific gravity is 1.026-1.027.

+1, my theory is very similar!

Looks great Andy. I'll have to steal that paint color idea if I ever do an in-stand sump again.

Are you going with the same feeding/filtration strategy as the 30g or different?

Thank you! Go for it! Yes. The only thing that's different is my 3 part instead of having a calcium reactor on line but other than that nothing has really changed. I will eventually put one on line once I cant keep up with the demand of the corals using 3 par.

Out of curiosity, what amount of alk and calcium have you been dosing daily? And have you been dosing them in equal proportions?

I don't dose everyday. Mostly every other day. Well.......at first I was dosing everyday in equal proportions to bring my dKH and calcium to where I wanted them. From there it seems as if my dKH will drop 1.0 in a couple days. Calcium about 10-15ppm in 3 days. Every so often I find my self just adding one and not the other to do an adjustment. At a time I'm dosing 1ml per gallon.

Interesting. I'm in the same boat as you. In my 75gal I dose 2.5oz each of alk and cal daily, which equates to 75ml (1ml per gal like you). I also sometimes find my cal has gone a bit higher than I'd like so I just don't dose that for a few days until it's back to where I want it. Seems to be working pretty well. My only complaint has been my method of having to manually dose everyday but I just bought 2 BRS 1.1 dosers to take care of that. Reef is looking great btw!

I have a lot of kalk to deplete before going to dosing. With that I am just manually dosing when needed.

Just put my order in for the Avast Marine Porthole so maybe I can take some half descent pics of some corals.

Avast Porthole came in!!!
