I have a st thomas mushroom that up until today has been doing great. Today it's closed up and this clear goo is coming out of its mouth. There was a marble size ball of this goo that came out and I removed it from the tank...had 0 smell, mushroom also has 0 smell. I have 2 other St Thomas in the same tank and they're fine. I assume a bacterial infection would smell and since this is clear and has no smell I have no idea what's going on. Any idea?. I have a bottle of Kent marine iodine that's probably 2 years old...should I dip it or do the wait and see?

Is it just pooping?
Do you have any photos?

Still has goo coming out of its mouth. I've been removing it with a turkey baster and it just keeps coming. Just gave it an iodine dip not sure what else to do. Has no smell still.

Well the stringy things are messenterial filaments (aka guts) and you are irritating it causing it to spit out more. I’d leave it alone for a bit.

Agreed. No smell=no chance it's brown jelly (would have killed the mushroom by now anyway). Something is irritating it. If there's something dropping sand on the shroom, maybe consider moving it but otherwise leave it alone.

It looks like it's detaching it's foot and what looks like it's guts are coming out of the bottom? The two other St Thomas mushrooms still look fine. I have another tank....should I move it in there?

I'd do a dip in iodine, Cipro if you have it and move it if you can. It's definitely not happy.

I have iodine but not Cipro. I can't figure out what the problem could be and why only this one mushroom is freaking out when it's been happy and inflated everyday until recently. Is it possible it's splitting or attempting to? It did stop with the goo.

Red St Thomas?
Maybe just lighting/ camera

I assume you have done the right thing by removing. AAA++

You sure no smell ? Like rotting flesh?
It's very distinctive

Yes it has no smell at all. Reminds me of a really ticked off anemone.

These are mine. The bluer one is the one that's not doing well the other one looks totally fine. They're not insanely expensive but not $20 either.

If in doubt.. take it out .
don't throw it, place in a container with aquriam water, inspect it as it maybe something in your aquarium

I think something has irritated this mushroom, it's not very often they expel Thier guts for no reason,
Possibly shrimps or crabs may of caused this .
you could also check mushroom to see if any sponges or others like spirobids or anything else annoying them from underneath

So, I ended up losing 2 st Thomas mushrooms from the same supplier and the other St Thomas is doing fine. I have a discoma that has been curling it's edge and I'm wondering if the same issue is affecting this coral? Would doing a 100% change help if this is some kind of bacterial infection? It's only a 15 gallon tank. I have other mushrooms, some that are super expensive in this tank and it seems like whatever this is goes from one to the next with about a week and half in between each infection. My parameters are good:
Ph 8
Alk 7.5
PO4 .04
Nitate 5

I don't know what to do. I have another tank with mushrooms in it and I'm wondering if I should just move them to that tank but I don't want to spread whatever is going on.

I suspect they are starving... Nitrate and phosphate are extremely low for soft coral.

Well I figured out what's happening with the discoma. Pods are either eating it or irritating it so much it won't open. Any ideas how I can fix that? Now I'm wondering if that's what killed the other two mushrooms. This tank has a huge pod population. I have a clown I just got a week ago and a firefish and it's only a 15 gallon tank.....not sure I should add more fish.
