How can I stabilize an aquarium to 8.3 8.4 PH?

You would have to give us more details about your setup to help with that one... There are things like adding a skimmer, using CO2 absorbing media in the air intake line, and pulling air from outside instead of inside. But if you are already doing those, then suggesting them won't really help. :-)

This question - its not easy to solve if you don´t involve a controller

First problem to solve – how to avoid the dips during no lighting period.

Using outside air and let it pass trough a CO2 scrubber will probably give you a baseline pH of around 8.15. And you need to have an oversized skimmer – as much air as possible through it.

Using limewater as top of during periods with lower pH than 8.3 and normal top of during periods with higher pH than 8.3 will probably stabilize the lowest point to 8.3

Now the problem with rising pH during photosynthesis will occur. The photosynthesis will use CO2 (in one or another form) as carbon source – therefore lower the level of CO2 in the water – hence a rise in pH. If your “dark pH” has it lowest point – at the end of the light period – you will probably reach 8.5 and over.

During normal circumstances my “dark pH” is around 8.2 – my top pH (light pH) often reach 8.45 if Ido not have any visitors or stay overs. Two person (and one Cat) – well isolated and CO2 scrubber. Night CO2 in the room around 400 ppm.

If you want to have a stable pH at 8.3 you probably have to compensate the CO2 taken from the water by the photosynthesis with adding CO2 the way plant aquarists do (freshwater). As I know – nobody has enter that path yet for a coral aquarium. I have take a step forward this with equipment that change from where I take my air to the skimmer (pH below 8.2 – through my CO2 scrubber -> pH over 8.2 – from my sump cabinet) However – I am planning to use CO2 in a bottle later one in order to take down my peaks and stable the pH around 8.2 in the fist step. Why? I want to see if it works and I want to test some theories that I have.

The only way to stabilize the pH at a particular level (any level) is to control the CO2 level and the alkalinity. That said, pH 7.8 to 8.5 is fine.

Thanks to all . I agree that that the only way to stabilize the PH is to control the CO2. and i add in the night Air. + Sodium Carbonate.
