What are your thoughts of the stages we go through in Reef keeping?

Here's mine

Stage 1: No nothing about Reefkeeping. Buy a small tank. Buy fish that are too small for the aquarium size. Buy coral that are not compatible with each other. Wonder why you have diatoms and red slime. Subscribe to Reef2reef in a effort to learn more. :)

Stage 2: Have read hundreds of threads on Reef2reeef and know everything about the hobby. Buy a bigger aquarium along with hard to keep fish and expensive coral. No more diatoms or red slime. Coral and fish are doing well. ;)

Stage 3: Since all the fish and coral are growing so well, you can turn this into a business raising fish and fragging coral. Why not since you now have all this knowledge and lots of people follow your build thread.

Stage 4: Raising fish and fragging coral is not as lucrative as you imagined and your tank is having issues with the parameters staying constant. Your ph and Alk are way out of wack. Your tank crashes or comes close to it. You vow to never spend another dime on this crazy money pit hobby and plan on selling all the equipment you spent thousands of dollars on. :(

Stage 4: Nobody wants to buy all your old outdated aquarium equipment and supplies so you decide to learn more about what you did wrong. You realize you know nothing about how to keep a reef tank and read hundreds of threads on Reef2reef again.

Stage 5: Rebuild your tank or resurrect your existing tank. Have some success and read more threads on Reef2reef. Realize that raising fish and fragging is best left to the professionals. :D

Stage 6 to infinity: Have a nice tank. Read at least an hour a day on Reef2reef. Come to the conclusion that you still have so much learn and it's a continual process of learning that you share with all your new friends on Reef2reef. :)

Let's hear what your stages are of this amazing, frustrating, awesome, depressing, beautiful, time consuming, fantastic, money pit of a hobby is.

Cheers
Kyle

I have to say R2R has help me several times. From simple questions to real problems. Reef keeping is and always will be changing and challenging. This is one of the reasons that makes it special.
