Stalled RR Red Bull Growth

Looking for some advice guys and gals. I've had this frag and another the same size for over 1.5 years. It has not grown at ALL! What gives? This frag is about 6" below my 400 watt radium halide, and I have another identical frag under a 6 bulb ATI fixture. Both look happy with polyps extended but never do anything in the growth department.

I'm growing A LOT of other corals just fine, but this one alludes me.

Thoughts?

Although I don't really have experience with this I have heard about this technique time and time again and it makes sense if you think about it. The coral will need to heal and it'll stimulate growth.

I was going to suggest the same thing. Make some tiny frags by snipping a couple tips, it should stimulate it to grow and heal itself.

Ive done this with 2 of my sps frags i wanted to grow a little faster..it worked both times.

That red algae around the base is brutal and will stall/slow base growth and stress the coral. The coral expends all it's energy fighting off that algae and there's nothing left to put into growth.

It's likely snails will eat that, so get a handful of astreas to help that coral out............use that specific species.

If you want faster results chip that coral off the rock, cut it near the skin and re-mount it on something clean or algae free and give it a new start.

Guess I haven't thought about this before but it does make sense. I've not been a huge fan of snails in the past because they seem to knock over stuff. I did clean the plug when I snipped the tip so I guess both are covered now. I haven't touched the other frag under T5s so we have a sort of "control" for my test.
