I'm deciding on what stand I will use for my 65 gallon rimless aquarium.

My favorite look is the UNS Wood Stand shown here. I would be looking at the 120...which brings me to my aesthetic question:
The stand has a 48x24 footprint but my tank has a 48x18 footprint. How do you think this would look, perfectly matched width but with a 6" wood lip/shelf in front of the tank?

Are there other similar options?

My cheap version of this would be a 2x4 framed stand with a solid hardwood facade. To keep the cost down on that one, I would source the hardwood from a flooring supplier since I want that strip look anyway. If they were too wide, I would just rip them down on a table saw.

Nice looking stand. I am doing a custom DIY so haven’t been looking at commercial stands. I would cheat your aquarium to the front and put the excess in the back.

I can see how this would work for a straight up 'against the wall' layout. However, this will be visible from the front and right edges and I think it would look funny that way when you can see the end-on view.

I think putting it all the way back would look better. It would give you a small ledge to set stuff down while you just stare into the tank.

I agree, put the tank all the way to the back and honestly I would cap the stand with a thin piece of manmade Quartz countertop. Waterproof, resistant to testing chemicals and something you could size slightly wider than the stand itself which would break up the look of the tank being pushed all the way back when looking at it from the front.

My DIY stand was made deeper in the back so that my three 1.5" drains (middle, ghost overflow box) and my 2 returns could go directly in/out of stand, straight down & up.

If you do put shelf in front, consider the effect of your lights reflecting off it. A non-reflective surface might work well.
