I'd leave more of the back open to allow it to breathe better.
Do you plan on doors of some sort? I would also consider upgrading the plywood even if you plan on painting. Even if it's birch or oak veneer, the finished product will look much better IMO.

Definitely doing doors just not sure which hinges I am going to use. I was wondering about opening up the back more but was not sure about the effect on the integrity. I am thinking of doing birch for the front and sides and just using pine for the other faces.

I would add a pair of 2X4 uprights to properly support the 2x6 front edge. From the looks of things, you’re currently trusting the screws in the plywood ends to support all the load. I would rather it be supported by verticals. JMO

You could double up the outside plywood walls and notch the inner piece of plywood so the 2x6 sits ontop of it. I agree that those 2x6's absolutely need support under them. You're looking at atleast 1500 pounds of tank, rock sand and water. No way would I trust just the sheer strength of some screws to hold that up....

It looks like the entire tank will be supported by the plywood walls. I highly recommend you add at least 1x4 uprights to each corner to help carry the load of the tank. It is best to start with a 2x6, 2x4, or even a 1x4 frame, then use the plywood to enclose the stand. I agree most DIY stands are overkill, but this one is a bit underkill, especially for a tank of your size. Just my 5 cents
I don’t have any problem getting my sump in or out. I’m not really sure what kind of catastrophe would occur for me to need to take the entire sump out. I over built my 180 gallon stand But I can still get my sump out if I need to.

I planned on using my existing sump until I built a custom one and then making the swap. I am so done with filter socks and want to use a roller mat in the future. I would love to have one of those and have looked at them but I don’t know anyone personally that uses one so I’m still a little apprehensive about adding one to my system. I have plenty of room because I made my stand extra large but I just haven’t pulled the string and gotten one yet.

The beam going along the back edge of the tank dose not have to span the whole length of the tank. You can have it turn in and around where the bulkheads are as long as you have supports where the beams turn in.
I found this pic from another R2R member to help explain. His stand is made out of metal, but you can do the same with wood.
