Stand height for 6ft x 2ft tank with sump

I thought I might be able to salvage a stock type 180 stand, but the clearance is way tighter than I anticipated.

I usually set it up for viewing and maintenance. The skimmer is a beast though and is making me worry about being able to pull it out for maintenance etc. If I make the stand high enough to be comfy pulling everything out then the viewing/maintenance sucks.

A 40b fits fairly tight but is workable with a 4" stand rise. However I had a 75g sump in mind, but once you raise the skimmer to operating height you're stand ends up being super high to get the skimmer out.

Here's what I'm talking about. Excuse the mess I'm in the process of moving.

I just finished making my stand with 2x4" and 2x8" outer dimensions are 73" L x 25" W x 45" H. TONS of real estate under the tank

I made my stand 36"tall to match my counters and I have space . Height is a personal thing, for a standing view you'll usually want 36 to 42 for seated lower. Just don't go so tall that you can't work inside the tank

I like 35~40" tall, it makes it easier to view. For a taller tank I would say ~38" or so. My 40 Breeder I'm building to 35.5" and just initially can already say that it looks better than the 28~30" you usually see most commercial stands at. Last stand I did was 40" and it was nice to walk by, but not for seated viewing near a dining table.

I agree that a taller stand is better. Yes, if you are 5'10" tall (or under) it will require a step ladder but, it's worth it.

I actually wish I would have gone another 3" higher than I did.
