I am planning on cutting my wood for stand today and I am now second guessing my choice and before I cut I want to be sure. I originally decided on a 36" height but then thought about 40". I know it is only 4 inches but with a standard 120 the length will almost be as high as the stand. Does anyone have pictures or experience with a tall stand on a 120. I do not need the height for a sump it will be in the basement. Thank you very much ahead of time all your options will be greatly appreciated

With the sump in the basement I'd go 30-36 inches, you don't need as much space as someone that has their sump in the stand. I can't wait til I can do this 1 day and not have to worry about getting on a chair form time to time to make things easier.

I think that a 36" stand is good that puts the top of the tank at 5' which will be a good viewing height sitting or standing. I will be building a canopy also maybe a little down the road. I have to see how my led light does I may have to supplement with t5's the a canopy will be necessary.

It really depends on how you are viewing it, in a seated position 40" you will not see the sand bed and the angle of view will be tilted up. I have a 36" stand on my fowlr, but went with a 30" on my reef, in a seated position I'm looking up at the fish in the fowlr, yet I am able to enjoy the corals on the sand bed in the reef on the 30" stand.

That is a very great view point never really thought about that maybe 30" would be a good idea. I guess most of the time you will be viewing from a seated position thanks for that view point

I second the 30" stand. I built a 42" stand for my 210 so I can view it while standing up but I hate having to get a ladder to access the top of it.

Well I think I have made my decision a 30" height will be what I go with now off to the lumber yard to get some wood.

Good morning to everyone, I have a mixture of LED and T-5 in my 175 Red Sea Max. I've been having this lightning for about four years and I found that the LEDs give terrific color and shimmer which looks good, I'm thinking about changing the fluorescence to all LEDs. My coral has grown like crazy, with the lighting I have. But I think they'll do a little bit better with all LEDs.

Which tape mark 1 top 2 middle 3 bottom this will be the bottom of the tank

I just built a stand for my 5' 120 and I built it at 42". It is the perfect height to view standing and I figured that anything over 35" or so I would need a ladder anyway since the tank is 26" tall. Here is a picture showing the height standing.

Thanks I cut my wood for the stand at 34 inches my tank is going to be in our living room so most of its viewing will be done from the seated position. I figure that the daily matinence will be easier with a lower tank. Also less head pressure since I will have a fishroom in the basement.

I'm wishing I'd gone with 36" or so - the free space under the tank is tight. Total height is 31 3/4" and the top frame is 2x6 lumber. Seriously considering sistering in some 2x4 behind the front 2x6 and cutting 2" out.
The good - top of tank is "armpit" height for me - I can reach in and touch the bottom of the tank (4x2x2 120). Also, it has to fit under the slope of a staircase, so .... not much choice.

I was thinking about making it higher but I will only have my closed loop pump and some receptacles or power bar under there. Height was not a large concern for equipment in my case. When I had my 55 I made the stand as high as could because I had a sump underneath
