Stand help

Hey guys, I’m building a 500gallon+ Inwall at my office. I had my contractor/engineer build the stand and this is what he came up with. Obviously not ideal. He will move the bottom brace all the way down vs midway. The problem is the tank overhanging the stand. He will be adding plywood around the top perimeter of the stand so that the edge of the tank will rest a surface as well. Will this be an issue later on? Or is it better it rest on one piece of plywood?

As long as you support the extending 2x4s underneath I see no issues. I did this recently for a stand that was built for a 40g and added 6 inches for a 75g. Best of luck

A 2x4 around the edge can work as long as its level with the top sheet of plywood. There should not be much loading on the edge since the stand has a flat top but it should be supported. Were you planning to put a foam sheet under the tank? I can't tell from the photos but is this stand assembled with screws or nails?

I used a level to do my best once added. With this size tank I would like to see it supported but others may have more input as well. Best of luck and it sounds like an awesome build!

Hi guys it’s assembled with screws. I will have a 1/8 foam under the tank. I wasn’t sure if the potential unevenness around the edge will increase the risk for leakage from the seal.

I would make sure that any unevenness is sanded out to get it as close as you can. if the outer edge is a high spot it could potentially put additional pressure on the tank seams. The foam should help here to smooth out minor unevenness but 1/8"foam is really thin stuff 1/4"+ might be more ideal. As for the 2x4 edge being supported down to the floor that should not be needed as the weight load of the tank is all transferring into the 4x4s down to the floor. As long as the 2x4 edge has lots of screws to secure it there should not be an issue. If you want extra piece of mind you can also use wood glue along with the screws on the 2x4s.
